We Went To See New York Tigers Down The Line The 1973 Tiger football team finished with a fine 7-3 record and second place in the Northwest Conference. The Tigers were led by the terrific passing of Quarterback Timmy Morrill who com- pleted 77 out of 146 attempts for 1044 yards. Lor- enzo Marshall was the number one ball carrier for the Tigers, while Bobby Heizman led the team on defense with a total of 87 solo tackles. Coach John DeNunzio's men chalked up three shutout victo- ries in their seven wins. Tri-Captains Steve Campbell, Lorenzo Marshall, and Bobby Heizman were ably supported by fine seniors like Steve Heckart, tackle and punter. Tackle Lenny Pitters, linebacker and kicker Dave Nemeth, ends Danny Pattee and Dennis Wilson, guard Mike Parmelee, and backs David Chu and Timmy Morrill. This year SWAS became a true school within a school with the move to Newfield Street. To oper- ate, SWAS was given a suite of rooms on the first floor which held classes, community events, study- ing students, and the usual SWAS craziness. Still operating with 100 students the program changed to a quarterly schedule. SWAS did be- come an integral part of MHS and many SWAS ac- tivities were open to MHS students. The community spirit, very much a part of SWAS, was somewhat dampened with the move but with campouts, com- munity meetings and luncheons and such pop- ular classes as One Room School and Counter Edu- cation a camaraderie did develope. The 1973-1974 year is the last of SWAS exist- ence. Next year the pro- gram will develop into a program of different scope, emphasizing dif- ferent aims. iUAAl 35 Friends, Counselors . . . It won the mid-state conference champi- onship, qualified and participated in the State High School Baseball Tournament, and shared the City Public Schools Baseball Championship with Wilson. Perhaps the most outstanding note concerning the season was that of playing on our own beautiful baseball field. Never before in the long history of our school did we have a field of our own. Now we do and the players love it. The convenience of the new field has increased the interest in spectator participa- tion as evidenced by the turnout of students and faculty at our home games. The Junior Varsity team also had a successful year with an 11-2 record. J.D.'s Diamond Dusters New School Records — 1974 Discus — S. Heckart 156' 10 East. Relay Javelin — S. We'll do better next time. Promise! MRS. FREDERCKS — Musing A school opens, the year begins, students anti- cipate, parents expect, and school personnel administrate. Without the school staffs, secretari- al, custodial, and cafeteria, the building would not function as an educational institution. Impor- tantly and efficiently as these groups have con- tributed to the educational processes, the Mid- dletown High School faculty has demonstrated its uniqueness in coping with a multitude of changes in the building structure, curriculum, and general administrative detail. It has not been an easy task for these most effective people, but they, above all, have made Middletown High School a successful, educational enterprise. To them accolades should be thrust as it is they who met the anticipations of the students and the ex- pectations of the parents, in this, our first year. MR. PEHOTA — In Conference MR. Leslie Brooks Jimmy Brown My name is Luis Eduardo Calero. Many people seem to have a hard time sav- ing my name right so they just call me Ed, a lot easier for them and me. I come from Bolivia, South America. I am an exchange student with the Rotary Club. I'd like to thank the Cauldron staff for this opportunity to express my thoughts about MHS and the wonderful time I'm having being a regular student this year. It's a lot of fun here mainly because it's very different from schools back home. I have played soccer on the MHS team. I've made a lot of friends, mainly with the Italian players. I did a little better than some of the regular players on the team and most of all made my coach happy. I also was the top scorer on the team. Lois Peltz Daniel Pattee Karen Perruccio Lisa Perry Bonnie Pitkin Lina E. Pitruzzello When I knew I was going to Middletown High School for one year I thought of an old building with the old, formal, severe system of education such as some private schools have in France. The students have to walk silently, one behind the other, until they are sophomores. I have gone to private schools since kindergarten and it was hard for me to imagine how it was going to be in a private school in the U.S. First I was amazed by the building. I cannot say I really like the out- side but it offers many modern facilities to the students. There is a lot of equipment and a tremendous choice of classes. I found a lot of sport- ing spirit for teams (es- pecially football, bas- ketball, and swimming) that I really like be- cause we do not have such competition be- tween schools in France. Swimming Timer The relations between students and teachers during and out of the classes make another big difference between MHS and the school I graduated from. During classes the teacher tries to follow the rhythm of work of the stu- dents and does not rush every single class because he has not gone over everything in the official program and outside of the classes the students do not flee from the teacher. When I leave in July, my main regret will be that I did not get a chance to meet every one of you. It has been a great experience and a good opportunity to learn how the teenagers think and act in other countries. Au revoir, mes amis. Veronique Prouvost Russo, Lillian R. 53 Bretton Rd. JOHN OF COURSE 96 HERB AND HOSS V N — ON INTERIOR DECORATING — I'm thinking of redoing my room, of filling the air with symphonies floating in and out on a summer breeze, of making the walls a blue cloudy sky with the sunset on the east wall — to remind me, of making the floor a cool rushing brook, with mossy stones to step on, and the ability to wash away my tiredness and disenchantment with the world and fill me with the realization of myself, of filling my open closet with a field on a hill, fringed with age old pine trees, and singing red wing black birds back for spring, of adding silver camel bells and cricket chimes for the loneliness of the times, remembered things, the seasons, of making my bed a garden of weeds and other of filling the bottles with the perfumes of of making it open to all people to enjoy and also as an example so they too will create a room and find comfort in it as I have found in mine.
