Education in a democracy serves a two-fold pur- pose. On the one hand it recognizes the needs of the individual and strives to develop those aptitudes which will enhance the personal happiness and economic independence of the individual. But equal- ly important is the task of preparing for competent and useful service to the community, state and na- tion. Actually, these two purposes are complementary, for the greatest happiness comes from being of service to others. My wish for you, in your senior year, is that you may discover this true happiness. EDWARD B. FILLBACK, Superintendent Graduation from high school indicates that a particular period in your life is about to close. For some it means the termination of all formal educa- tion and for others the completion of one more phase of their educational pattern. During the four years that you have been with us, the faculty has striven to help each one to grow mentally, morally, culturally, and physically in accord- ance with his interest and ability so that he will become a successful member in our democratic society. We hope that each one will consider graduation as the beginning of a very full life and that all will continue to grow by reading, attending cultural af- fairs, and participating in civic activities. I wish to congratulate every member of the grad- uation class and to extend my best wishes for the future. HAROLD E. HEALY, Principal

With the production of satellites which circle the earth and moon rockets soaring thousands of miles into space, the world has been launched into the space age. We, as members of this age, are becoming increasingly aware of the role we must play in the future. We must constitute the scientists, the teachers, and the government leaders, as well as the supporting populace. As we leave behind these, our carefree high school years, and look ahead to the responsibilities facing us as future pioneers into the vast, unknown realm of space, we fervently hope we can meet this challenge with wisdom and fortitude.
