The ninth of November will go down in the annals of history as a very black day, for the first report cards lhorrid wordsj of the season appeared. Only two suicides were reported, but authorities expect this number to increase near mid-years. lt was during this month that the Terrific Tigers took the C.C.I.L. championship from under the noses of other hopefuls, by beat- ing Meriden 25 to 0. The annual girls-grab-a-man dance was held in the gym, courtesy of the G.A.A. This important social affair had to be post- poned for a week because of a sad lack of electricity following a storm. There would have been a dance, anyhow, if the kids had had anything to say about it. After all, who cares about lights at dance -hmmmmm? A bill should be passed giving us a week to rest up after vacation! Once we got back in harness, Miss Nejoko started rehearsals of the sen- ior play, ln a House Like This. Those little blue books fell almost to pieces from the beating they took, up until early March. We offer our condolences to those con- cerned. When the College English class took up Macbeth by that immortal bard, Willie Shakespeare, a great remark came forth that we must set down in the annals of his- tory. Hank said, and we quote: l was do- ing fine until I got to the second line! Then, too, there was the day memory pas- sages were due, and scores of harried sen- iors were to be seen vainly grasping for daggers that I see before me. Miss Cycan is going to pass everyone this year, simply because she couldn't stand us one term more! Pete often remarked that he didn't like school in general and Mr. Murphy's room in particular, but the first physical violence along this line came late in January. Pete deliberately and with malice aforethought spilled corrossive sulfuric acid over a large portion of his desk and floor, hoping vainly the acid would eat the whole school up. However, our trusty Johnny-on-the-Spot Murphy came dashing to the rescue, saving the school land usl! Pete was so cowed by this failure, he didn't say a word for almost three minutes. Don Anthony provided music for the Junior Prom, which students of all classes attended. Curlers in bandanas were seen everywhere onthe big day, as the beauties l?J prepared themselves for the affair. Our favorites, Curley Schmidt, Blue Eyes Murphy were chaperones. FEBRUARY Newly elected members of the National Honor Society come in for a large dose of publicity on February 16, when seniors and aspiring juniors were installed. Even old and seasoned members showed severe signs of strain, as the gruelling hours of candle-clutching wore on. Those few lucky seniors who would never have to do it again congratulated themselves. Throughout the month, Miss Nejako hurried her harried seniors through the frantic rehearsals of-you guessed, the play. 'Nuff said. One Friday morning we awoke 'to find heaps of snow piled to our second story windows. School? ll hope, l hope, l hopef not!! No, we had the whole day to make snowmen and snowballs. An extra long weekend too! The sad side was that the scheduled movie, Winter Carnival, would have to be postponed. However on Monday following our day off the sultry Ann Sheridan and that darling Richard Carlson were on the screen for us. The 16th was a day of rejoicing, for our mid-winter vacation began. For twelve ex- cited seniors and the lone junior, Charles McDonald, it was the prelude to that long anticipated journeyfthe New York trip. Most of the rest of the school spent the entire five days in bed. Everybody awoke by Saturday, though, in order to be an eye witness of the Wilson game. It was a howling successffor Wilson. Dem bootiful dames in da Baton core sure wowed da peeples. Even the band gave a nifty rou- tine for our last game ofthe season. Ye editor of ye Cauldron threatened to ease herself out of the third story win- dow as the deadline swiftly approached on speedy wings. Then there was the sight of Banks tearing her hair over those in- fernal write-ups and Bennett trying to soothe same. All this was accompanied by prayers for an earthquake, a fire or any- thing! SPRING Ah, spring! How hard it was to study dur- ing those beautiful days when the sun was shining down on our beaming counten- ances as we worked and shirked through those last months or two of our celebrated high-school careers. Some of our more optimistic friends started to worry about those fiendish en- trance exams. After those, it was a minor miracle that any got into college. Bliss! Oh, bliss! We actually saw that inspired performance of ln a House Like This at long lost. Lo, those many months we had heard and talked about that pro- duction. Finally we got to see it. What with great gandmas and grandpas totter- ing about the stage, we began to wonder whether this school year had really been that hard on us. As our stay in our dear Alma Mater drew to a close, the bobby sox gave way to sockless Ioafers and the pre-mature tan seekers basking in the sun soaking up the Vitamin D with the aid of sunburn lotion. On one beautiful June night the envi- able seniors held their Senior Ball. They made that last social affair a memorable one. Where did all those men come from? Long will be remembered-the Coast Guard assembly, graduation rehearsals, Senior Class meetings, Doc's old iokes and Miss Cycan's iubilant expression as we were iostled out of her class. Then came graduation with caps and gowns, speeches, diplomas, reception and our last farewell. Remembrances of our careers in M. H. S. will always be with us.
