Senior Class History S the Class of '39 glances through its notebook, it realizes that three happy, well- filled years at M. H. S. are drawing to a close. Having advanced from green little sophomores to dignified seniors, we are about to bid adieu. Lealing through the notes on dramatics, we come across the Sophomore Class Play. The Patsy . The following year as juniors we presented that complicated mystery, The Night of January 16th. This year that hilarious comedy of the depression, Shirtsleeves , was given. The proceeds were used to buy the cyclorama now adorning our stage. Many of our classmates have been outstanding in art and music. Much of the work of this book is due to the artistic talent of a few seniors. Last year several students won the rating of excellent in the musical contest at Oxford, while Glen Russell was graded superior for his saxophone solo. He was then privileged to enter the state contest at Oberlin. Glancing farther through our notebook, we turn to the social notes. Last year we inaugurated the evening dances held in the gym. Also as juniors, we had the honor of holding the first Junior-Senior Prom in the new ballroom of the Manchester Hotel. This year the Senior Girl Reserves were hostesses at a formal Valentine dance at the Armco Auditorium. ' Scanning the athletic notes we see that our record is very good. Hamilton won the football games the last two years, but our team got its revenge in basketball. Spec McGraw captained the football team, while the basketball captain was Joe Cornella. The track and golf teams upheld the reputation of M. H. S. Now our debate notes come into view. Jim Stubbs, David Scheibert, and Florence Freeze have done excellent work on the debate team. We tied with Withrow for second place in all the debates held. The outstanding page of our notebook concerns ' our scholastic standing. Many seniors have always been on the honor rollg while David Scheibert, Alice Hawkins, Lucille Crosbie, Richard Koeppel, Helen Whitaker, Betty Bernstein, jean Fanning, and Florence Freeze have brought us recognition by winninghigh honors in the scholarship tests at Oxford. ' Thus our scliool days will soon be brought to a close. We are 'going forth into the world, but we shall often recall the pleasant experiences at Middletown High School. l24l l L.
