VICTORY HOT CINDERS After winning the Pendleton Tournament everyone made a fast return trip back to Middletown to celebrate. The grand gathering place seemed to be the middle of the street under the stoplight. A fire was built that roared high in the sky, and everyone got right in with the spirit of things and danced around it and sang victory songs. Dancing 1lidn't continue for long as the fire was so big you were apt to get burned. Everyone in Middletown and even in the surrounding towns came to welcome the victorious Cossacks back home. Those who were unable to get tickets joined in the celebration. At last the climax came-the boys came riding in in a little Model A Ford. It didn't take the members of the community long to realize that these boys deserved something extra special, so they drove out the big red fire truck and hoisted the boys onto it in short order. They took a ride through the town in all their glory. Incidentally, it was a good thing we won, as Coach Von Jameson had forgotten to pack the jug in preparation for the tournament.

They returned to their winning way by defeating Lewisville two days later 67-41. On February 20th the Fossacks defeated Markleville for the third time 56-52, to retain possession of the Victory Jug. This ended the most successful season a Middletown team has ever had. They went into the sectional with a record of 18 wins and 2 defeats, which included a 16 game winning streak and one tourney championship. During the regular season and the Pendleton Tourney the Cossacks scored 1041 points against S93 for their opponents. This makes an everage score of about 48 points per game to their opponents' 41 points per game. The total of all games including both tourneys was 21 wins and 3 defeats.

BASKETBALL Knute Reedy, Bill Crabill, Jim Moore, Duane Laurie. Ronnie Crow, Bob frahill, Bill Hale, .lerry Lovett. Coach Von Jameson. At the beginning of the year Von Jameson had plenty of experienced ball players from which to form his team. On this squad were seven Seniors: Hale. Reeily, Moore, Lovett, Bill Crabill. Bob Crabill, and Anderson. This team turned out to be one of the best teams, if not the best, to wear the red and white for Middletown. After four weeks of hard practice the Cossacks opened the season against St. Mary's of Anderson. This turned out to be a one point victory for St. Marys -14--13. But after that night the opponents of the Red and White had different stories to tell. The next week Fortville fell be- fore the Cossacks, 43-38. On November 1-1th Markleville came to town in possession of the Victory Jug but left without it for they were downed 36-27 in which they scored but three field goals against the Cossacks. The Cossacks got rolling with successive victories over Knightstown and Frankton by scores of 53-50 and 58-35 respectively. On December 5th they journeyed to Lapel for a Jug game. They came home with the Jug for they downed Lapel 64-33. The next was also a Jug game with Pendle- ton. but we kept the Jug by piling up the biggest score of the season. 70-55. The Red and White then scored a victory over Moreland 50-43 and came from behind an 18-3 first quarter handicap to nose out a strong Straughn five. They then beat Spiceland 48-41 to go into the
