They stretched their victo1'y string to eleven by winning the tourney, defeating Markle- ville and Lapel by scores of 64-48 and 59-57. tD.O.T.J The Cossacks came from behind by scoring eight points in the last 45 seconds to de- feat a fine Summitville team 44-43. They trounced Mt. Summit 67-36 and then on January 28 revenged their only defeat of the season so far by beating St. Mary's 60-56. The Cossacks kept the Jug by defeating Pendleton the second time by the score of 64-52. On February 6th they ailded Lapel as their 16th straight victim. 59-56. Then on February 11th a very strong Hagerstown five ended the Cossacks' amazing 16-game winning streak by edging out the Red angl White 46-41. They returned to their winning way by defeating Lewisville two days later 67-41. On February 20th the Fossacks defeated Markleville for the third time 56-52, to retain possession of the Victory Jug. This ended the most successful season a Middletown team has ever had. They went into the sectional with a record of 18 wins and 2 defeats, which included a 16 game winning streak and one tourney championship. During the regular season and the Pendleton Tourney the Cossacks scored 1041 points against S93 for their opponents. This makes an everage score of about 48 points per game to their opponents' 41 points per game. The total of all games including both tourneys was 21 wins and 3 defeats. VICTORY HOT CINDERS After winning the Pendleton Tournament everyone made a fast return trip back to Middletown to celebrate. The grand gathering place seemed to be the middle of the street under the stoplight. A fire was built that roared high in the sky, and everyone got right in with the spirit of things and danced around it and sang victory songs. Dancing 1lidn't continue for long as the fire was so big you were apt to get burned. Everyone in Middletown and even in the surrounding towns came to welcome the victorious Cossacks back home. Those who were unable to get tickets joined in the celebration. At last the climax came-the boys came riding in in a little Model A Ford. It didn't take the members of the community long to realize that these boys deserved something extra special, so they drove out the big red fire truck and hoisted the boys onto it in short order. They took a ride through the town in all their glory. Incidentally, it was a good thing we won, as Coach Von Jameson had forgotten to pack the jug in preparation for the tournament. BASKETBALL Knute Reedy, Bill Crabill, Jim Moore, Duane Laurie. Ronnie Crow, Bob frahill, Bill Hale, .lerry Lovett. Coach Von Jameson. At the beginning of the year Von Jameson had plenty of experienced ball players from which to form his team. On this squad were seven Seniors: Hale. Reeily, Moore, Lovett, Bill Crabill. Bob Crabill, and Anderson. This team turned out to be one of the best teams, if not the best, to wear the red and white for Middletown. After four weeks of hard practice the Cossacks opened the season against St. Mary's of Anderson. This turned out to be a one point victory for St. Marys -14--13. But after that night the opponents of the Red and White had different stories to tell. The next week Fortville fell be- fore the Cossacks, 43-38. On November 1-1th Markleville came to town in possession of the Victory Jug but left without it for they were downed 36-27 in which they scored but three field goals against the Cossacks. The Cossacks got rolling with successive victories over Knightstown and Frankton by scores of 53-50 and 58-35 respectively. On December 5th they journeyed to Lapel for a Jug game. They came home with the Jug for they downed Lapel 64-33. The next was also a Jug game with Pendle- ton. but we kept the Jug by piling up the biggest score of the season. 70-55. The Red and White then scored a victory over Moreland 50-43 and came from behind an 18-3 first quarter handicap to nose out a strong Straughn five. They then beat Spiceland 48-41 to go into the inf sz THE SECOND TEAM Row 1: Kenneth Conn. Gene Thornburg, Dallas Hunter, Bill Kee-sling. Row 2. Jack Casstevens, Tom Painter, Myron Ball, James Anderson. YELI, LEADERS A new plan was instituted this year in the selection of the yell leaders. Two representatives were chosen from each class to try out for yell leaders. Each year a new freshman is to be elected anil the others are to advance a year. Gloria McMurdy was elected from the Freshman class. Marilyn Teter from the Sophomore class. Sam Jarrett from the Junior class and Marion Wilson from the Senior class. The Pep Sessions Committee, with Mrs. Lawson, put on several good pep sessions and our yell leaders gave us a fine show of their sportsmanship. Marilyn Teter. Gloria Nlcllurdy. It takes only a little rain to dampen the spirits of most people, but it takes more than a mere shower to dampen the fighting spirit of the Middletown Cossacks. We came through victorious against lt. Summit Friday afternoon. and we bypassed Knightstown to go into the Saturday tussle. Saturday the weather man was a little more generous and gave us a glorious day to parade our Red and White. We decorated the cars and formed a parade going up one street and down another. Saturday afternoon the Cossacks charged into the Spiceland Stingers. and they got stung! Saturday night the Cossacks drew to a close their fine performance, hy losing to New Castle in an overtime by a score of -12 to 38. We expect innumerable teams to represent Middletown in years to come. hut there will never he another team so well-balanced as the seven Senior hoys who will graduate this spring. Eyes Right! uf . Knightstown 2 Baseball in Middletown has been making great strides during the last few seasons, and this year's nine is probably the mightest ever to bear the Cossack red and white. A combination of veterans and newcomers formed the nucleus of this year's diamond nine that won the Henry County Baseball title winning over a strong Knightstown team 10-2 at Lewisville, on a neutral diamond. Lovett and Reedy formed the battery while Hale, Moore. Keesling. and Laurie covered the basepaths and Crabill, Hunter, and Crow patroled the outfield. Five of these boys will be lost by graduation and will be greatly missed next year. but there are plenty of promising recruits coming up to carry on. . 0 ' ' w v . Ghost Wanted was presented by the Junior class on the nights of November 18 and 19. The cast was as follows: Hugo Bromley, a young man out of a job, who finds himself in the ghost business, was portrayed by Milo Stephens. Jeffery Hall, his friend and general manager, Sam Jarrett. Troddy, maid and cook for the Stormgay household, Nancy Rogers. Ginger Stormgay, a pretty girl in her late teens, Betty Baute. Gale Stormgay, Ginger's older sister, Norma Jean Graves, Hatcher, the Stormgays' houseman, Bill Davis. Granny Kate, the girls' energetic and capable grandmother, Rosalie Ringo. Professor DeVallan, an authority on Voodoo and Zombies, Richard Ashley. Madam Zolga, his strange assistant, Rose Clapp. Azalea, a lobster woman from the nearby village, Reba Dunbar. Nora Vane, a woman with a nose for investigation, Ethel Hunter. Mr. Bradshaw, the sheriff, James Swinford. The trouble all starts when Ginger Stormgay puts an ad in the paper requesting the services of a ghost. Hugo Bromley and Jeffery Hall answer the ad. When both Ginger and Troddy see the ghost, little do they realize that it is a real ghost. Granny Kate also sees the ghost and throws her bottle of perfume on him. Later the real ghost is found through the smell of the perfume. Bill Davis played an excellent part as the ghost with a cold. .,... s...J-. .54 A., Y n .rt M 1 - , -', v . . 5 , I ' v nm x s Nlildred Myers, Marion Wilson. .Ioan Harry, .lean Bennett, Norma .lean Graves On Nuvelnber ISU, a Mardi Gras was held in the high school gyninasiuni.
