J l Soccer Middie soccer enjoyed an 11-2-2 season while finish- ing a shade behind Monticello in the O.C.L. American Conference race. After losing their first two outings, Coach Tom Clarke regrouped his squad and led them on an exciting chase of the league leading Monties. In the season's most thrilling game Middletown beat Monticello making the Middie comeback hope a reali- ty. In the season's final O.C.L. contest, Monticello came to Middletown needing a victory or a tie to clinch the title. Unfortunately, with a score of one to one, Middletown's title hopes faded as darkness de- scended on the field at Watt's Park. Thus, a great season ended on a disappointing note. Coach Clarke, in reflecting back on the season, praised the play of seniors Rosario Parisi and Robert Ehrets. Their overall record was 11 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie. This was their seventh championship in the last 'eight years. The team, coached by Dan Johnson, and paced by Nello Mastria's 14 goals, Jay Guattery's 9 goals, and Edwin Melendez's 6 goals, and the rest of the I.V. middies outscored their op- ponents 4O-22.
