Jw Ii 4? Baseball This year Middie Baseball will feature 10 re- turnees from last season's 18 man squad, and Coach Vic Liviccori, returning from a one-year sabbatical leave, will once again take the reins from last year's coach Richard Siers. Coach Liviccori vows to keep only 15 on the 1976 Var- sity Team, leaving many battles for jobs among returning Varsity men and moving up l.V. players. Three of last year's pitching staff will return, with john Scarano, Nelson Merced and Bob Taylor battling it out with Dave Wordon, Bucky St. Hilaire and Steve Dineen for the scarce hurling spots. Meanwhile, returning catcher Ken Ritter will have his hands full trying to hold a staring position over a stiff challenge from Bill Fortier. The rest of last years team, Mike Cuddy, Wally Deisseroth, Bob Eherts, Mark johnson, Tony Melendez and Rod Whitby will wait anxiously for final cuts to be made. Three juniors with shots at starting this year are: Mark Amodio, Mark Strecker, and Nelson Reed who was outstanding last year. All in all, Mr. Liviccori will have a real tough time picking his final fifteen. With the entire battery and most of the outfield and infield returning, the Middies look to be a strong con- tender for the OCL title. - num. --Y 128 J I f a' X 'Q 1 I ---V f X f la AW If l gd ,6 f Q 3' l Nu I

if ti Indoor Track The emphasis was on prepartion for the outdoor season as the Middletown High School Indoor Track Team ran its way through the 1976 season. Although lacking the proper facilities for indoor training, Coaches Cline and Collins nevertheless made an effort to put together a championship indoor team by developing strength in all events. The sprinters, led by top returnees Mike Ash- craft, Jimmy Young, Ed Morrone, Glen Johnson and , hurdler Craig Hunter were probably the strongest group T of competitors on the team. Distance men, however, led by Paul Silipino, jack Morrissey, Brian Morrissey, Allen - Blair, and Steve Tilmont also put in a good showing. Field men led by pole vaulters Glen Brinkerhoff, Pete Lazier, and Glen Lewis, and high jumpers Tom Smith and Craig Hunter, showed power in their events. With these top performers, along with a large stock of new freshman and sophomores, Middletown hopes to power its way to the OCL championship this spring.
