CQNCLUSION HIS volume has attempted to portray in words and pictures the school which is Middletown High School and the boys and girls who are its students, particularly the Class of 1958. The picture is not a simple one, as the pictures on these pages eloquently testify. Even beyond such purely physical complexity, however, no photograph, no written word, can ade- quately capture the spirit or the purpose of the institu- tion or its students. john Barber stares stoically at the floor as he waits for the cheerleaders to hnish their routine. Members of the MHS swimming team. led by open-mouthcd Don XY'.1lton, practice .1 racing dive. The year and the book have reached their end, but the long tale of progress has only begun. The true record of any educational institution is formed by its graduates and their achievements. The boys and girls met on these pages will form such a record. Each of them has progressed during the past year, some more than others, some in one direction, some in another. And each in his turn has contributed something of him- self to the progress of the school and the community. The word Progress, then, is not merely the theme of a yearbook, but the expression of an ideal and a way of life and the theme of many careers not yet begun. Led by Rene LaBoda and Dawn Resko. a group of girls practices dancing in the gym. 101
