SWIMMI G HE Middie swimming team, competing at the YMCA pool, lost dual meets to powerful Peekskill and Nyack by close scores and split two meets with Newburgh, losing one and tying the other. The tank- men came back to finish second in the Section 9 meet. Several boys, including Wally' Blanchard, Earl Speirs. and jim McQueen, established pool records in their specialties. GULF HE Middletown High golf team, capably coached by Mr. Kenney, meets its opponents on the well- kept greens of the Orange County Golf Club. Home- and-away series are played against tive DUSO League foes. This seasons squad, with a large percentage of returning veterans, is especially strong. jim McGowan and Ed Golemboski, two of last years standouts, are back, as are a number of other seasoned performers. About S0 boys engage regularly in bowling intramurals. The Varsity squad, coached by Mr. Van Eseltine, had a most success- ful season, winning a number of matches and finishing second in both the DUSO and Section 9 play-otts. TENNIS HE Middie tennis team. undefeated DUSO chain- pions in each of the last two seasons. is once again a favorite to capture first place. Coached by Mr. Tindall, who is optimistic about his scluad's chances, the netmen face five DUSO opponents, including powerful New- burgh, in home-and-away series during the spring.
