Stamina The Cavs improve an already strong team Despite the loss of valuable players from last year, the Cavaliers started rebuilding the football team during summer practices for the 1987-88 season. Fourth-year coach Terry McCormick took the team up against some very strong and competitive schools. The team displayed much exuberance throughout the practice season as well as during the regular season. It took this exuberance and their own initiative to enable them to overcome the problems that would inevitably arise. Small problems such as playing in the rain and dealing with injured players weren’t too difficult for the Cavaliers to overcome. Even when larger problems arose, the Cavaliers had many strong, ready and willing second string players who could pull the team out of a hole when things got tough. Under the guidance of the coaching staff and team captains J.L. Steller and Derek Brady, the team has worked very hard to put together a high caliber season. Both of the captains played an important part in inspiring the team to go further. This extended group effort allowed the team to achieve such things as capturing the Harvest Bowl for the third consecutive year over our long-time rival, the Smyrna Eagles. 90 Middletown High School Cavalier

Our Varsity Team Striving for Excellence Our 1987-88 Varsity Football Team set out with high expectations in August during summer practice. The entire team as well as Coach McCormick was out on the practice field by 9:00 a.m. while the rest of the M.H.S. student population was still at home sleeping. Their hard work and effort paid off, as their season was successful. Unfortunately, this was Coach McCormick’s last year as head coach of the Cavalier football team.
