GRADUATION 1977 Donna Pace — Valedictorian senior sponsors were presented with gifts in appreciation of their and help throughout the year. The Class Will was read by Hope Vincent and Kathryn Pulse. Senior Day was a joyous occasion for everyone, especially the seniors. The various committees worked hard on writing the class history and prophecies, and on getting the gym decorated. The theme song was “Old Days”, by Chicago. The fun, laughter, and SHAVING CREAM will long be remembered by all. 47 The senior picnic was held at Pickwick this year. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather. The day’s activities included swimming, frisbee, motorcycle riding, and, of course, eating the delicious picnic lunch. The day was a big success. Coach Bighain has had several years of coaching experience in Mississippi. The Tigers are looking forward to next year’s winning season. Both teams look ready to go! (Not Pictured) TIGER BAND The Tiger Marching Band, under the guidance of Mr. Charles Dean Brunjes, held high honor and respect everywhere they traveled. The season started in the summer of ’76, eight girls, two flag girls, two field commanders, and four twirlers participated in the Summer Youth Program in Murray, Kentucky. In August all Marching Band Members were required to come to Band Camp. Diligent work proved to be a success for the Marching Band Football games, two Christmas parades, Bolivar and Bartlett. October 9, the Tiger Marching Band performed at the West Tennessee Marching Festival in Jackson and October 23, at the Memphis State Marching Festival. The Cottom Carnival was the Marching Band’s last appearance of the season. These are the units of the Marching Band. The Field Commanders control, the twirlers add sparkle and the flag corps, color. On the field or off, the Tiger Band lends support and excitement to the football season. This Versatile Band marched from the parade route right to the concert stage. Auxiliaries, who once serve as color and sparkle, serve as serious musicians to the concert band. The Christmas Concert was their first gig of the season. Later, much preparation was given for the Concert Contest to be held at Woodale in April. Before going to this event the Hardeman County Festival Band joined in concert at Bolivar, Central. The Concert Band presented it’s annual awards concert. All seniors were presented with trophies. The last performance for the Band was graduation 1977. The performance was one to he remembered. 66 boocxes mint .«■ r The Stage Band boogied all year to the sound of such performers as Stan Kenton, Otis Redding, and Paul McCartney. They hosted a concert of their own with guest performer Colie Stoltz. The Stage Band went to UTM to participate in the Stage Band Festival. This musical group received a II rating or excellent. 67 BaW Senioft Tussy can’t believe the Seniors are leaving. Cynthia loves to play with the chumps! Karl is thrilled to be a Senior! 68 JUNIOR HIGH BAND Junior High Band Officers: Ho R — Jerry Mills, President; Mike Cagle, Librarian; Toni Vandcberghe, Historian; Amelia Pipkin, Librarian; Lana Bodiford, Vice President. The Junior High School Band achieved excellence throughout the Season. Band camp was the starting point. The Bartlett Christinas Parade produced a first place trophy in the Junior Division. Later in the season, a first division rating in sight reading was awarded the Band at the West Tennessee Concert Festival. Other performances included; Bolivar Christmas Parade, Hardeman County Bands Concert, Strawberry Festival Parade, and the Awards Concert. The officers were elected and attended the annual Leadership conference at MSU. In addition to our regular classroom activities, DECA also operates the school bookstore. This gives students who are not working on regular outside jobs, the opportunity to gain practical business experience. During the regional and District basketball tournaments held here at Middleton, DECA was in charge of all posters and brackets, along with printing the programs. DECA also attended the annual State Conference which was held at the Hyatt Regency in Nashville. C. Bartlett, Mr. John F. Gibbs, and Mrs. Hubert Jones, the Middle-ton High School continued to grow and develop as one of the leading schools in Hardeman County. Academically, all programs of study were strengthened allowing students to more fully develop their abilities. This was the year for Middleton High School to be re-evaluated for continued membership in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The Visiting Committee evaluated our school from November 15, 1976 through November 18, 1976. The Committee reviewed the school's self-study and engaged in activities to give it an in depth view of the school program. They commended the school board, central and local school administration, and staff for their efforts and accomplishments. Middleton High School is the oldest accredited school in this immediate area.
