lhen Mills returned rnd replaced Robbins on the first bolt which mzde the third crcm Bockrus bow Whiting two Brtnsford three Robbins stroke ind Stout coxswun lhc eight was organized from the barges with Fletcher box Morley two Bates three King four Cyrry five Green six Lewis seven, Lord stroke and F Farnsworth coxswain On May lst our first two crews swept Groton the second crew by two lengths 1nd the first crew by one length However the first crew was again changed and Mills was shifted to stroke ind McCagg to two with Batchelder and Sam Shriver on the strrboatd With this lineup on May Sth the first three crews met Nobles on the Ch rrles River Bullard tgarn stroked the second crew to a halflength victory but the first 1nd third crews lost to good Nobles crews by two thirds and one length respectively This defeat meant mother ch rnge and Robbins became first crew stroke and Mills went to the third Phe next week Middlesex met St Mark s on Bateman s Pond md swept tll three rrces the hrst ind third by one length and the second by a two foot margin After this victory Meanwhile the eight scored victories over Browne and Nichols and then Shrewsbury c rch by about three lengths Captain Lord stroked in both victories and led his crew to 1 most successful season After two week s practice the hrst squad went to Lxeter for the annual rrce 1nd mct three strong Lxeter crews Although the second and third crews races were close Middlesex lost both by about hve feet and we lost the first crew race also by 1 length and 1 half 'l he season thus ended drsapporntrngly with a triple defeat 'Ihe record was two two but both of the races lost were close Letters were awrrd cd to Crptarn McCagg Batchelder, Brarnard Cameron I-lord Istradr Bull trd and Dunn A 1 mcctmg of the lettermen ack Mills was elected next year s captun md we vnsh him the best of luck Mr Locke though retiring from lctrve teaching happily is returning to co rch the crcw IILXL ye lf I lull I ' ' i 'l , i 4 , 2 c , l c .
