E GLISH AND HUMANITIE The cultural life and background for the student at Mid- dlesex is promoted through the English and humanities department. English curricula develop competence in ex- pository and creative prose as well as encouraging the student to an appreciation of literature and drama. Art and Music Appreciation classes allow the student to experiment technically as well as learn the history of the major movements in the fine arts. The language department offers three languages: French, German, and Spanish. These courses are developed in the areas of reading, writing, and speaking.
