AUTCGRAPHS canlinzzcff from Page 53 slim 14- l 3 victory. Our next opposition was furnished by our close rivals from Bell High. This again was a conference game but more than that it was a game of rivals. The Iackets were early in showing what they thought of the old rivalry as they jumped to a 6-U lead. They quickly scored again and by the half had run up a 26-6 lead. The Bobcats fought back, but again the lackets were on the top end of the score: this time 40-l2. On a miserable day for football with threatening skies and a muddy field, the lackets met their arch rival in the long- awaited game with Pineville. For the first time in three years the lackets could look for revenge, for the last three years had ended in defeat for the lackets. The Iackets jumped to an early 6-O lead in the first quarter. The Lions fought back but were un- able to penetrate the lackets' goal as time after time the lackets bolted their drives. While playing a very good defensive game, the offensive unit rolled to another touch- down and went into the half with a l3-O lead. Soon after the second half got under way, the lackets went over for another touchdown, making the score 20-U. Again the defensive unit stopped the Lions' drive, this time almost on the goal line. The lackets took the ball here and went about 80 yards for a touchdown. The third period ended with the lackets ahead 27-U. The Iackets could not be held back and as the whistle blew the score read Middlesboro 33 Pineville 6. 68 The next week saw a test of the two con- ferences as the second SEKC place lackets met the CVC second place Harlan team. The Iackets gained a 7-O lead in the first quarter and held on until the half. ln the third quarter lVI'boro made the score l4-0 in our favor. The lackets scored again in the 4th quarter and the game ended with Middlesboro winning 2l-O. During the regular season the Iackets had shown themselves outstanding and were invited to play in the Pinnacle Bowl at Middlesboro. Their opponents were the high-scoring Whitesburg Yellow lackets. Middlesboro was the slight favorite but it was believed that Middlesboro might be de- feated. But the Iackets again proved their strength and set down the Whitesburg ll with a 33-6 victory and were thus the first team to win a bowl game for Middlesboro. Thus another successful season came to a close for the Middlesboro Yellow lackets. The Iackets were ranked eighth in the state and were second in scoring with a total of 332 points for the season. The following Seniors played hard and gave all they had in all the games. lt was behind the performances of these Seniors that brought Middlesboro its winning season. Harvey Drum Yeary, Terry Gooding, Tommy Chalk Stapleton, Paul Braden, Charles England, Charles Kelly, David Hat- field, Bill Clark, Tim Sowders and Cecil Powers all say to the next years' team, Give 'em the works, lacketsf'
