But the lackets got back on their winning ways by defeating Bell High 86-8l, and Wil- liamsburg 84-63. ln the Williamsburg game, Chalk Stapleton hit 45 points to set a new individual scoring record for Middlesboro High School. The lackets kept a new win- ning streak going by defeating Corbin 67-65. Our next ,game was with the league lead- ing Clay County Tigers. Although the lackets staged a great comeback in the second half, they went down before the sharp shooting Tigers 64-59. This brought the Iackets to the District Tournament. The lackets drew the power- ful Lone lack five. Although they fought hard all the way, the lackets went down 82-70. The Iackets had members chosen for the All-Tournament team. They were Frank White, Tommy Stapleton, and Paul Braden. The Seniors whose play made this season a successful one were: Frank Birdog White, Tommy Happy Stapleton, Harvey Drum Yeary, Bobby Smiles Barton, Don Sid Denny, Bill Fats Clark, Larry Smoke McKinney, David Bluster Hat- field, and Paul Piston Braden. Milligan, Iohnny Blondell, Iimmy Hurst, Dickie Am- RUNNING WITH THE CAGERS Uncertain of their future, the lackets opened the season with a new coach at the reins. Middlesboro met defeat at the hands of Barbourville in their first game, 65-57.' Next a powerful Lone lack five journeyed to Middlesboro and again the Iaclcets met defeat, 7l-70. Middlesboro took to the road: and with 'White and Stapleton showing the way, the Vlfilliamsburg Yellow laclcets went down to defeat, 64-57. The Panthers of Knox Central journeyed to town and were stung handily by the lackets, 92-73. Lynn Camp followed Knox Central and they too went on the trail of defeat, 8l-5l. Middlesboro then invaded our neighbor- ing state of Tennessee and met the Lalfollette Owls. The Iackets spoiled the Owls un- defeated season 69-60. 56 The Iackets again hit the road this time to London where they stung the Tigers 77-66. The laclcets traveled to Bell High where they won the Bell High Invitation Tourna- ment by defeating Harlan 55-45, and Bell High 63-57. Next, the lackets journeyed to Clay County. Having won seven straight games, the laclcets met defeat by a score of 72-64. The Iackets hit their stride again and defeated Pineville 77-55, Knox Central 82-66, and Bell High 81-74. Against Barbourville, this year's laclcets gained the distinction of being the only Yellow lacket team to hit l00 points-They did this in defeating Barbourville 100-83. The Iackets continued this pace in defeating Lynn Camp, 74-68, Harlan 74-59, and Pine- ville, 73-72. Again Lone lack defeated the Yellow Iackets-this time, 64-58.
