3 we . ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR-V. T. MEDCALF The Orchestra of M. H. S. was organized by Mr. Medcalf, the director, in Octo- ber, 1935. It is composed of eighteen members, students from both Junior and Senior High School. As usual, the violins compose the 'majority of the instrumenta- tion. This orchestra is about the only school orchestra in Southeastern Kentucky. In the District Contest in Pineville, the O1'chestra was awarded Usuperior rating, and will go to Lexington to the State Music Contest. ..31..

Bill Bingham There are about sixteen members in this year's club. The members of the team were Lee Farris and Henry Ralston, first speakersg Bert Paynter, second speakerg and Herbert Silvers, third speaker. The team defeated Pineville-'s team in the finals of the 13th District Tournament in Pineville. In the Stzite Debate Tourna'ment in Lexington, Middlesboro defeated Winchester in the semi-final preliminaries and lost to Augusta Tilghman High School of Paducah, Ky., the State Champions, in the semi-finals. Middlesbo1'o's team is rated as one of the four best debate teams in Kentucky. Herbert Silvers. in the District Tournament, won the honor of being the best debater in the contest. 13 O..
