President Wendy Fallon - Treasurer My AFS Experience When I arrived in Vermont on July l979, everything was different. Before I came. I thought a lot of people lived in Vermont, but I found that this was not true. In Chile the country side is half an hour from big cities. In Chile I live in San Carlos for nine months of the year, when Iam in school. I spend summers on the farm in the country, but my home in Vermont is in the country, and Shoreham is such a small village. Anne Kelley - Secretary Lynda Wetmore - Publicity Off Dianna Fields - Publicity Off My first contact with the school was soccer, this sport is very popular in Chile, but this was my first time on a school team, and the game is defferent in the United States. My time in school is different here. In Chile my school lasts from 8,30 am. to L45 p.m. and some days also from 2:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sometimes we also have school on Saturday in the morning. Here I have four subjects and in Chile twelve. My first month in school was terriblell thought people were speaking Martian, sometimes, the English was land still isj difficult for me to understand. It was hard to enjoy school because of the language problem fit is hard to enjoy it any- waylj But now it is better most of the time. Outside of school I have also found friends in Middlebury and in other places. Through AFS meetings I have met stu- dents from other countries and have learned about their countries and customs. I think that Vermont is very different from the rest of the United States. I thought that we lived slowly in Chile - no hurries too much there. But Vermont is just the same. I think it is true that Vermont is what America C the United States of Americaj was. When I first read about Vermont, they said there was a lot of snow. But no-o-o-o-ol I ha ve enjoyed learning to ice-skate I and fall down most of the time j. If the snow comes I will learn to ski.
