On September 5, 1948, fifty eager looking boys and girls entered their first year of school at M.H.S. Many of us. the class of 1960, were in that first grade class, which was taught by Mrs. Oberlin and Mrs. Oesch. Our teachers in the elementary grades were as follows: second grade, Mrs. Valentine and Mrs. Oesch: third grade, Mrs. Sprunger and Mrs. Copp; fourth grade, Mrs. Copp; fifth grade, Mr. Thiessen and Mrs. Bontrager; and sixth grade. Mr. Hoover and Mrs. Bontrager. At the end of the sixth grade our membership had dropped to 44. Our first year of junior high, in 1954, was the most exciting because it was so completely different from grade school. We also added five new members. When we entered high school, there were five new members from York Township; they were: Keith Vincent, Carole Schrock, Carl Fisher, Shirley Weltz, and Tom Mosier. During our sophomore year we chose our class rings, and at the beginning of our junior year we ordered our sweaters: we received both in our junior year. We also started to have bake sales, car washes, and our magazine sales, plus many other projects. In the latter part of April we gave the play Finders Creepers. Then on May 15 we went to Potawatomi Inn for our Junior-Senior Banquet. We carried out the theme, Rainbow Garden. Then the final year, which was the most exciting of all, came - we were seniors. In October we presented the play Mountain Gal. One thing we looked forward to most of all was our senior trip. We spent four exciting and interesting days in New York City. Finally the time came for Baccalaureate on May 22 and Commencement exercises on May 26 which were held in the high school gymnasium. Fifteen of the seniors attended M.H.S. all 12 years. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS CLASS COLORS - Red and White CLASS FLOWER - Red Rose
