Sponsored by B1CKLE BARBER SHOP, Middlebury, Indiana ‘jtyoittvry In the fall of 1943, forty-five eager boy and girl entered the fir t grade under Mi s Jennie Mast's supervi ion. The second year Miss Alberta Augsburger took over Miss Mast's job, and taught the same class. Our third grade teacher was Miss Joy Hooley followed by Miss Rhea Yoder, the fourth grade teacher. We entered the fifth grade with Mrs. Gail Morrison, and finished grade school with Mr. Andrew W. Hunsperger in the sixth grade. In Junior High School we began making money for the class, and we sold concessions at the Junior High Basketball Tourney. As we entered our next year of schooling, there were three students who came from York Township. Those were Wayne Vincent, Alvera Eash and Ruth Eash. Nancy Mishler, from Concord, joined us in our Freshman year also. The Sixteen , consisting of Jelon Buchtel, Ellen Yoder, Betty Lou Miller, Stella Mecum, Gayle Albert and Jose Ann Tressler, were chosen at the beginning of the year. Instead of the Sophomores having an initiation party for the Freshmen, there was a half day given for Play Day. This was the first time Play Day was used at Middlebury High School. We had 25 members in our Sophomore year and we chose our class rings. The Junior year was a little more exciting. As for our play, we gave The Daffy Dills. Then in May our Junior-Senior Banquet was held at the Burdick Hotel at Kalamazoo, Michigan with The Rainbow as our theme. Looking into our last year as Seniors we find that this is the year we will never forget. There are actually only 15 members that have started in the first grade and have ascended through each class with one another. This year there will be 28 graduating in the Senior Class. Many of us will never forget our grade school days that we spent together along with all the mischief and trouble we caused our teachers. In the fall, we gave Our Town as a successful play. The last week in April we took our Senior Trip to New York and had an interesting experience. Frank Doerfel came as an exchange student from Berlin, Germany, and became one of us for the year. Melva Hansen came for the second semester from Hurley, South Dakota. As our last year officers we elected the following: President, Gayle Albert; Vice President, Lester Miller; Secretary, Lorraine Kauffman; Treasurer, Jose Ann Tressler; Reporter, Barbara Yoder; S. O. S. Representatives, Ruth Eash and Frank Doerfel; Sponsors, Miss Mary Hoover, and Mr. Alfred Albrecht. _______ ‘Pictctne Dean Breniser Lydia Mae Weirich Keith Smith Ruth Eash Nancy Mishler Jose Ann Tressler Alvera Eash Ellen Yoder Joyce Mockler Stella Mecum Mildred Taylor Mary Hoover Alfred Albrecht Sponsored by OLIMPIA CANDY KITCHEN, Elkhart, Jelon Buchtel Dean Speicher Phil Troyer Doris Oesch Betty MiUer Frank Doerfel Donna Hershberger Lester Millet Gayle Albert patty Millet Marlene Yoder Barbara Yoder Lorraine Kauffman Richard Hooley Wayne Vincent Indiana tyeatuvi MARILYN HOOLEY GRACE BIRKY JIM COLE STANFORD MECUM WALLACE SHELLENBERGER MICKEY YODER DELORES LAMBRIGHT JULIA BRANDEBERRY KATIE YODER NORMA MILLER MARILYN BAER JERRY CRIPE DONALD MILLER CLAIR SMITH PHIL WEST SUZANNE SUTTER DONNA MILLER i CORINNE GIBSON MARY ALICE YODB LARRY WEST CHARLES YODER GARY YODER STANLEY KRAMER DUANE MISHLER ERLEEN TAYLOR Nancy Hout Ronald Koontz Tom Rassi Larry Hooley Larry Clodfelter John Kauffman Estella Eash Beverly Stalter Hortense Taylor Paulette Bicknell Ptiyllis Schrock Arlene Miller Ruby Miller Dorothy Miller John Yoder Wilma Bontrager Donald Chenoweth Carolyn Miller Eloise Miller Ada Schrock Sa 4 uHare4 Tom Benner Barbara Plank Marlene Fry Jake Shelter Kayola Platz Edwin Troyer Sue Hout Peggy Christy Verba Miller Mary Ann Kauffman Marvin Kiefer Dale Ellis Gerry Cripe Richard Kauffman Joan Breniser Sara Yoder Joas Weirich Verlin Riegsecker Janet Hook Geraldine Weirich Tom A. He is a very tricky ball handler and has a good jump shot from a few feet out. DEAN SPEICHER Spike was the field general of the team this year. With his hard driving and good ball handling he proved very tough for the opposition. This was the third year for Dean on the first ten. MICKEY YODER Mike is the tallest man on the team and this is his first year of varsity ball. He is a consistent rebounder and has the ability to score. Mike is expected to play an important part on next year's team. JOAS WEIRICH Joe had a late start this year because of leg trouble, but once he got going, nobody could stop him. Joas finished the year as a regular on the first team. Fans will be seeing him dump his deadly jump shot through that basket for two years yet. GARY CRIPE Heavy was handicapped by lack of height but he was considered a threat to the other team whenever he played.
