That stands for us. And the story of the building of our ship, that is the story of us. M.J. H. S. that is where we have been for four yearsg 1953, that is the year of our greatest accomplishment to date. We are only a class of recruits, not very old and as yet inexperienced. Four years ago we began. There were sixty-eight greenhorns in high school. We did not pay much attention to the slurs and jibes of the upper classmen, we let them sail away one by one every June till in time it would be our turn. With our instructors, Miss Bowersox and Mr. Robinson, we set about drawing up plans for our ship with great absorption. From the Freshmen grade we passed from grade to grade, gradually leaming ship mechanics, becoming handy with a ship, getting more and more sea-minded. This took us through the Freshmen grade, Sophomore, Junior, and up to the Senior grade. By this time, our numbers have diminished to our present forty-seven. As Freshmen we presented a Minstrel Show entitled Ye Ole Sunny South and had a record attendance of 450 people. We had our Freshmen Social and a class picnic at Kreamer. In our Sophomore year, due to popular demand, we presented another Minstrel Show, The Sophomore Review. We went to Half Way Dam for a very successful class picnic. You could promptly tell we were Sophomores by the way we displayed our newly acquired class rings. When we started our Junior year our social life broadened out. We found it the custom for Juniors to compliment the Seniors with a Jr. -Sr. Prom. Not to be outdone by former classes of Juniors, early in the year we planned a series of endeavors to earn money to pay the pipers, to OUR LOSS r 9 A 1' ,Jil gg MJ x .1 X w , sv s S as 11 4 QW? 'S .r ' J A tv ffihmfa OUR SAILOR BOYS Affwi SEl.INSGROVE'S GAIN say nothing of the decorators who transformed the gym into Melody Moods for the night. We sold peanut crunch and mints to the public as one of our money making projects. That year we presented a Comedy class play, His Ozark Cousin. We had the audience in stitches all during the play. We voted on Cardinal red and grey as our class colors. That year we also received our very colorful pennants and dinks. And so into our senior year. This year we presented a mystery comedy class play entitled The Singing Ghost. Through the selling of candy, christmas cards, stationary, and everyday cards we have become Ace Salesman. The most difficult task of our Senior year was the pub- lication of the yearbook, The Monitor. Now as we are about to leave M. J.H.S. to sail through the sea of life we are becoming more and more aware of our motto, NOW WE LAUNCH,WHERE SHALL WE ANCHOR. cuPm's if-Q 1. er vlcrms . , T Rn' li Jqucgx' Breen , ,flurlei .11-,q IIA, hu,-gg. Delivery Service Selinsgrove, 9392 TOOLS : There are many kinds of tools. Some tools are like those the farmer uses to till his soil and care for his livestock. Other tools are like those the carpenter uses to shape his lumber or the machinist uses to gauge tolerances or tighten bolts. But behind the farmer and the carpenter and the machinist there is another tool--the tool of education. That is the tool which teaches us all to use the more common tools with which we make a living. Just as the farmer must keep his tractor working smoothly and the carpenter must keep his saw sharp and the machinist must protect his calipers, so must the tool of education be kept in working order, sharp and precise. That :ls the job the people of Middleburg and vicinity are doing withthe new school they are building - keeping the tool of education in trim to produce young people able to live well-rounded, successful lives. Education :ls the tool of life--care for it, make use of it, cherish it and it will serve you well. Your Architect, THE FIRM OF EDMUND GEO. GOOD, JR.
