Class History ie our days at Middleburg High School are coming to an end, we, the class of '52, wish to look back over our happy school years together, which bind us with unbreak- able ties to our school, faculty, and many friends. One bright day in September, 1941, we entered the first grade-to learn 'reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic. Miss Frances P. Harris was our teacher. Miss Mary Martin was our teacher in the second grade. When we entered the third grade, we had Miss Thelma Duncan to teach us. We entered the fourth grade with Miss Winnie Burt to lead us around the world with a geography book. We journeyed on into the fifth grade, our teacher being Miss Helen Thompson. Then on to the sixth grade with Miss Nannie Burt for our teacher. We're proud to say that Miss Mary Young was a grand teacher for the seventh year. She took us that year to visit all the historical spots in Raleigh. In the eighth grade Miss Mary White, Miss Mary pune, andeMrimic. O. ay oungGs JT. , were our teachers, Freshmen! At last! It was hard at first to get adjusted to high school. We began taking part in high school activities. Miss Barbara Rudd was our homeroom teacher; Mrs. Douglas McColl, health and English; Miss Barbara Rudd, Civics; Mr. E. O. Young, Jr., algebra; Miss Ailine Mewborn, home economics; and Mr. Blum, agriculture. Sophomores'' was our new name for the next year. Miss Ailine Mewborn was our homeroom teacher. The others were Mrs. McColl, Mr. Young, Mr. Blum, and Mrs. Carl Williams, Jr., who replaced Mrs. George Blum, Jr. This year the girls were the waitresses at the Junior-Senior Banquet. We will never forget the year of 1951-52. The big events were the Junior-Senior Banquet and the trip to Washington. We were all proud of our class rings when they came. We had the same teachers this year all but one; Mr. W. A. Talton replaced Mrs. Carl Williams, Jr. In 1952 when we passed through the doors of our dear High School we could hardly believe that we were Seniors. We had the same teachers all but one; Mr. Fred Hale re- placed Mr. Talton. This, our last year, flew by swiftly and soon we realized that we would never be together as a class again. Under the direction of Mrs. McColl we presented our senior play, ''Sis Perkins, '' which was a big success. The Juniors gave us a lovely ban- quet. After selecting our superlatives and planning our Class-Day Exercise we realized that our year was almost over. Soon we shall leave behind us our beloved Middleburg High and the glorious years we have spent here. In our hearts there will always be fond memories of the days gone by, of the many friends we have made, and of the teachers who put up with us. Many thanks to you, M.H.S., for giving us the privilege of playing and studying on the campus we no longer will call our home. PEGGY DURHAM, Historian

Class Prophecy Ab oso looked for my old crystal ball and not finding it, I was forced to use my super-natural powers to prophesy for this Senior Class ten years hence. Since I had so many to prophesy for I worked on it for several weeks. I wrote them down one by one so as to keep them with me. The following is what I wrote as I saw each one's future through my super-natural powers. Aubrey Blanks will be running a large farm in the Flat Rock community with a little girl who is now in the sophomore class there to run the household. Charles Ellington is running a dairy farm in the Gr eystone community. I wonder why he always liked the place so much. Billy Fort is now 2nd Vice President of the Seaboard Airline Railways. He always liked to travel on trains; now he can ride when he pleases and he has authority in the corporation. Franklin Fuller is commanding the U.S.S. Forestall, in drydock in Norfolk. He is a captain in Uncle Sam's Navy. Melvin Hendrick is doing quite well in his medicine practice. His wishes finally Caimentinuer Julian Oliver has just finished putting a huge neon sign on the top of the Empire State Building. It was a big job for a little fellow, but he did it. Braxton Poythress is now working on his second million dollars. He gave up the first million. George Reavis has worked his way up to manager of the world's largest casino. No one ever could beat him at his own game. Miss Becky Buchan is managing the household of a large dairy farm in the Grey- stone community. She seems to like that community and dairying too, Doris Dickerson has moved to New York. She is the number one soprano opera star. Peggy Durham has taken a modeling course under Marilyn Monroe and is doing quite well in her new profession. She didn't have to study hard because she was good at this in high school. Lou Zene Edwards has done well since she left high school. She has taken over Betty Crockers experimenting with recipes. Betty Hinton is now residing with her husband in California. He is a captain in the United States Marine Corps. Betty Jean Harris, who thought she would never learn to type, is now teaching typing in the same classroom in which she was taught. I wonder if she thought she would ever do as well as she does. Patsy Jessup has taken a civil service exam and has gotten a job as secretary to the junior senator from North Carolina. She doesn't care much for the job, but it is the senator she is after. The Middleburg Home Ec. Dept. has grown so it has to have an assistant. She is none other than Geraldine Paschall. Shirley Van Dyke has broken her fourth engagement. When will she stop break- ing those poor boys' hearts ? Nancy Young is looking out for the livestock on their small farm while her hus- band travels over the country doctoring other people's livestock. Nancy has always liked the country and she found someone else who did, too. After working my super-natural powers so much they began to weaken. But I looked into space and saw a misty vision. At first I couldn't tell who it was, but after a while it became clear enough for me to tell who my super-natural was trying to visualize. It was a young lawyer who had become a great success. Even in high school it was very hard for anyone to out argue her. She is none other than Betty Jane Perdue. Now I must rest my powers for quite a while before I can use them again. But if anyone needs help don't hesitate to call on me and I will use them to help you as much as possible. MELVIN HENDRICK, Class Prophet
