While TOURlNG MlDDLEBRANCH you will find a treasure chest of memories in the making, which is near and dear to the hearts of all students. Among these memories are the crowded halls and the up and down steps, the daily assignments copied with an ever dull pencil upon borrowed paper, the low price of milk due to the milk surplus, cramming for coming exams, the non-scoring scoreboard, the an- nouncements over the P.A. System, the feeling of pride after playing a good, hard game of ball, and a host of others. ln the years to come, we hope this MEMOIR will provide the source for renewing again and again the memories of old friends and past events. fuculiy Q board ol education STANDING: Mr. L. HE Seniors of l956 started the year off by having the election of class officers. There were always some ac- tivities going on in the senior class, from selling Christmas cards to practicing for the class play. The class play Shy Guy was presented in the fall. The seniors also had a bake sale. Then in November and December, we sold Christmas cards and wrapping paper. Everyone was happy when it was time for the December holidays but the seniors sold annual advertisements even during the holidays. During the spring of the year the class night script had to be written. Following close behind class night was the Senior Dinner-Dance, then came the few last big steps--- the final assembly, the final week of school, the final ex- ams and Finally graduation. As we leave our high school days behind us and contin- ue our lives either in college, service to our country or in our own homes, we will always have the memories of the good times, the deadlines we had to meet and our friends at Middlebranch. faculty award HE Faculty Award for 1956 was presented to Darlene Heim. S i 71 c e 1 8 9 2 America's top top secret in The United States Government has a lot of closely-guarded secrets-weapons, strategies, ways to fight communism, But of all of them, there's one that's more jealously guarded than all the rest. And you're the only one who knows what that secret is! One of your rights as an American is the right to a secret ballot. And you alone know how you mark your ballot. N0 one sees it, no one can influence you. It's your secret. In the Red-dominated countries, your vote-if you get one -is about as secret as a brass band playing in a greenhouse. You usually have only one candidate to vote for. A group of sharp-eyed officials checks your ballot to see that you voted the right way. Some people, even in this country, think that that's the way elections should be run. Most Americans don't agree and it's up to every one of us to see that our ballots remain secret. If we let the secret ballot get away from us, we can say goodbye to all our American rights-freedom of speech, free- dom of religion, freedom of press and all the others. How can we preserve these freedoms? By speaking out strongly when we see them endangered. By using our secret ballot every election day to keep America free. Remember, they're your rights, so treat them right. The Timken Roller Bearing Company The figbz rv work :bell nm be abridged nor made impuienr' DO YOU KNOW YOUR RIGHTS? It all depends on your point of view. Will you graduate ar will you commence? Graduation means the completion of a required course. Commencement means the beginning of new experiences. This year, seniors will be starting new tasks. Some of you will become housewives, others will start new jobs in shops, factories and offices. Still others, will continue your studies in college.
