Cheerleaders Enter Competition The Middle Township Cheerleaders performed as never before. With a new coach, the new Middlemen and a new attitude, they infused a new spirit into Mid- dle Township High School. As spectators at basketball and football games have seen, the cheerleaders were full of life and cheered with vigor. Along with their performances at varsity games, the cheerleaders competed as an athletic team and captured several trophies. Commendations include both the Spirit Award and Third Place in the Upper Township competition, at which co-captain B.J. Sikora tumbled her way to the Miss Cheerleader title. At the NCC State competition, the squad surpassed all expectations and walked away with Second Place and an invitation to the National Championships in California. Mrs. Borger, the cheerleading advisor, has played an instrumental role in the squad's success. Her dedication has spurred the cheerleaders to strive for continued excellence. The squad appreciates her time and effort and would like to say, Thanks for joining our team! 1. Show off your spirit girls. 2. Middlemen join the Panther's Cheerleading Squad this year. 3. 1331! GIRL This year's JV Girls Basketball team was an overflow of varsity play- ers. Each Lady Panther added her individual special skills to the sea- son. Michele Conklin, a sophomore did an excellent job of adding points to the game, as did Lori Vergentino with her devastating three-pointers. I X gw f I f We X fa? ff! Spirit Filled Week At Middle Homecoming Week of 1987 commenced at Middle Township High School with three fun-filled school days. Monday, November 9, was officially called Twin Day, and students had a chance to dress alike with a friend. Tie-dyes, beads, and bandanas heralded the arrival of Tuesday, which was entitled Hippie Day. Students dug through attics and cajoled parents for old clothes and jewelry. The era of Flower Power reigned supreme as daisies, long flow- ing hair, and peace symbols showered the hallways. The school updated its wardrobe on Wednesday as Panther fans filled class- rooms with visions of orange and black on School Colors Day. That afternoon, students busily prepared for the Homecoming Dance, which took place Wednesday evening in the school cafete- ria. The theme was Hooray for Hollywood, and each class had a chance to pick a movie and develop that idea by decorating an assigned wall. Seniors chose GONE WITH WIND and displayed a pictorial representation of a Southern mansion on stage as Well as a white picket fence and silhouette figures of Scarlett O'Hara and Rhet Butler. Juniors chose the movie GREASE and adorned their wall with a pink '57 Chevy and a motorcycle. SIXTEEN CAN- DLES was the theme for the sophomores, and they decorated accordingly with streamers, balloons, and plenty of sparkle. Freshmen had all the right spirit as their wall read MIDDLE PANTHERS HAVE ALL THE RIGHT MOVES. They cheered on all sports teams with the traditional colors of orange and black. The big turnout at the dance guaranteed a good time and the festive evening climaxed at 10 p.m., as the Homecoming Court of 1987 was presented: Seniors: Amy Muller, Eve Ford, Holly Far- land, Kathy Anderson, and Heather Pantellasg Juniors: Denise Hennessey, and Shelly Lions, Sophomores: Michelle Conklin and Paige Springer: and Freshmen, Megan Richardson and Dawn Roth. The Homecoming game began at 7:30 pm on Friday, the 13th, as the Middle Panthers took on the St. Joe Wildcats at Memorial Field. Entertainment at half-time was provided by the Panther Marching Band. At 9:30 the Homecoming Court Parade arrived. Last year's Homecoming queen Miss Pam Turnier presented Miss Amy Muller with the crown of Homecoming Queen of 1987. 1 ,Fw 1 1 12. 'A . 771
