Outstanding Musicians Middle Township has seen three of its students in All South Jersey Band this year: senior Christine Heck of baritone horn, junior Heather Bah- niuk on oboe, and sophomore Amy Brown on flute. The three students qualified for the band through a three-part audition, which consisted of scales, a solo, and sight reading, held last December. After receiving their music, the three musicians went into rehearsal for the concert, held in January at Glassboro State College. Christine and Heather then went on to participate in All-State Band. The auditions for this ensemble, similar to those for All South Jersey, were a week after the South Jersey concert. After practicing their music individually, the two Middle Town- ship students travelled to Cherry Hill High School East in February to participate in the All-State Week- end. There they rehearsed for two days, listened to clinics from such musicians as trumpeter Walter Chestnut, who also conducted the band, and finally performed a suc- cessful concert. Middle Township had the privi- lege of having two outstanding stu- dents - Cathy Wang and Heather Bahniuk - as members of the presti- gious All South Jersey Orchestra. Cathy, A violinist, and Heather, an oboist, travelled to Washington Township High School last January for private auditions. They were among the one hundred elite musi- cians from the entire South Jersey region to be selected as a result of these rigorous competitive auditions. The orchestra was featured at the N.J.E.A. Teacher Convention in At- lantic City in November. The final performances were held at Glassboro in the spring. Christine Heck, James Moore, and Kahlil Gunther were selected from over nine hundred auditioning stu- dents to represent Middle Township in this year's All South Jersey Cho- rus. The group is made up of high school students from throughout the southern New Jersey counties. These students perform pre-selected num- bers before an esteemed panel of judges. Only thirty-five to forty voices are selected from each of the vocal sections: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Concerts were performed in February at Washington Town- ship High School. This was the sec- ond year of participation for Chris and Jim. 'HQgif'lrEiC' , X' J fa ,Jfl
