Q' ' ifff ' .. , , elf fi, Q1 of the Service To The Community Middle Township's Key Club is part of the world's largest high school community service or- ganizations. There are more than thirty-six hun- dred clubs world wide. Each is sponsored by its local Kiwanis Club. The Kiwanis Club of Cape May Court House acts as the parent organization for Middle Township. In cooperation with the school and the Kiwanis Club, Key Club provided various services to the community. Aid to the el- derly, handicapped, and needy families was per- haps the most significant assistance the club pro- vided. The Middle Key Club sponsored nursing home visitations and food drives as well as helped out at the Special Olympics this year. Each year Key Club International presents an International Theme with a Major Emphasis Pro- gram. This year the activities of the organization were centered around this year's theme: For Friendship's Sake. In addition to fulfilling serious community ser- vices, Key Clubbers enjoyed numerous social ac- tivities focused on Key Club. On Sunday, October 4, 1987, the annual New Jersey District Leader- ship Training Conference was held at Great Ad- venture. Twenty-two Middle Township Key Club- bers enjoyed speakers and a fun-filled day at the amusement park. The Key Club year culminated in April with a week-end-long convention at Ta- miment Lodge in the Poconos. 1. Student Government '1 Honor Society The National Honor Society, es- tablished in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, seeks to create an en- thusiasm for scholarship, stimu- late a desire to render service, pro- mote worthy leadership, and en- courage the development of char- acter of high school students. In fact, the requirements for mem- bership as defined by the national guidelines are based upon the qua- lities of scholarship, service, lead- ership, and character. Once select- ed, the members must continue to display these characteristics. This year's inductees were an- nounced on February 2, 1988, and were formally inducted March 14. The new members were selected from a larger group of candidates by a committee of teachers. The new members must maintain at least a 3.0 scholastic average and be active in extra-curricular ac- tivities in order to remain in the organization. This year, the members of the Honor Society organized a Christ- mas candy cane sale and worked in the refreshment stand during home basketball games. Seniors vied for one of several National Honor Society scholarships, and the whole group visited Washing- ton, D.C. in the spring. 5.
