New schedules, new teachers, new faces, and lots of talk to catch up on added to the confusion. It marked a beginning for the freshmen and an ending which the sen- iors had long awaited. Some new things happened this year. The freeroom came into being and added some enjoyment for the seniors where a dull study hall had been. Our first foreign ex- change student, Luiz Carvalho, came be- fore Christmas vacation and stayed until the end of third quarter. The girls' basket- ball team participated in the first region- al tournament held at Gillman City, Mo. The dances, the sports events, the trips, the plays, and, of course, our studies com- bined to help make this year an enjoyable and profitable one. Now that the year is ended, we can indeed say it was a very good year. Everyone looked forward to the end of semester tests, the mixer sponsored by the Stu- dent Council, and at long last--vacation. The mixer, which was held the afternoon of December 23, was enjoyed by all the students that attended. Besides the delicious refreshments which the faculty was nice enough to supply, the students were able to participate in their favorite activity. Activities such as ping pong, volley- ball, charades, and dancing were provided for everyone to take part in. 1971-72 Courtwarming 39? fig I 2' Q-'QYRF'--N'f'W2?E3 , Y Q A 1 Zf 1 1'..' For many weeks the halls were full of people who were constantly asking, Who are you going to the prom with, or What are you going to wear? Then finally April 29, 1972, arrived, and we suddenly found ourselves at the Ramada Inn sitting around tables with our friends and classmates. Following the banquet, Terri McPheeters read the Prophecy, and Janice Julian and Linda Conger read the Will. Thevspeaker for the evening, Mr. Ash- worth, based his talk on the song, People , which really left us with something to think about. His fine speech was rewarded with a well earned stand- ing ovation. 1 By 8:30 everyone was ready to dance, and the ar- rival ofthe band Rage began the Prom. Rage even managed to play music which the faculty could swing to, so everyone had a great time. The 1972 Banquet and Prom left all of us with many precious memories of a most enjoyable evening. , . The bus ride to Krug Park was filled with sugges- tions for Mr. Reynolds to detour across the state line, but much to the boys' chagrin we arrived safe and sound. While the boys scouted the area, the girls set up the picnic lunch. After a feast of fried chicken, everyone toured the park and tried to stir up some trouble. Next stop was Olympia Lanes. Teams were form- ed for the two games . Many seniors also shot pool when they finished bowling. About 4:15, a pack of hungry seniors arrived at the Sirloin stockade. Although the boys were sure their food would never come, everyone had a wonderful meal. Last stop was the Hillcrest Theatres where every- one attended a movie. For the seniors, the trip turned out to be a special day to remember. Additions to the teaching staff include special education, a librarian for the entire school system, and a counselor for grades seven through twelve. Eight of the 37 certified per- sonnel have their masters degree, and others are working toward their masters degree. Teaching experience varies from seven, who have taught 29 yearsg and nine, who have taught in an excess of 15 years. A group of 16 of those teachers are working in one of the most modern elementary school programs in north Missouri. This pro- gram is designed to help the individual student progress at a rate suitable to himself rather than a group. Studies verify that most students have greatly improved in the achievement rate. This program is carried on in the junior high school enabling students capable of pro- gressing at a more rapid rate to gain more knowledge through the school year. Those students capable of achiev- ing at a slower rate are provided the opportunity to gain more knowledge than they would have been in a regular classroom situation. Recent additions to the high school program have been French 15 immediate plans call for another unit of French, speech, and other social studies courses, as well as Special Education for grades 7 through 12. Plans are to offer a pro- gram equal to that of schools with AA rating. Advisements from the State Department of Education have been reduced from as many as 12 per ye ar to 2 this current ye ar. Our school district has gone from a school in danger of losing its classification to a school rapidly ap- proaching AA rating in a period of three years. All this has been done without an increase in tax levy due to the increase in state aid. Credit for the vast improvement must be given to the patrons of the District and to the men who represent the school the Board of Education. This was a year full of hopes for the' future and plans for the present to make this the best and most mem- orable year of all. A class of 36 seniors graduated on Sunda Ma ' Y V 14, putting an end for many? the shar- ing of 12 years of school together. These years held many memories of friends sharing experiences from the first grade to now, our graduation. We now must leave this behind and plan for the future because from this day on we no longer have the bond of school to hold us all together. So you see, for us, this is THE year, 1972. ,, F x , u Xvv 'y , IL , V' va, mi X gf M gf C. , Y X W Q VI ff' kr- Q ef M f jxlfv infix V C CC- ' '4 rex J ' L1 V' M i kf C s Q ,L I ,U ' MXL 5 f C., f V.
