Dr. R. Curtis Smith President During these ten years my slogan has been The Col- lege is for the Student. Our policies, planning and pro- grams are in the students' interest. With the student in mind we are now attempting to combine our strong liberal arts program with vocational and occupational programs. In our tenth year we added degree programs in nursing, agriculture and home econo- ,- i , 5 .,, mics. A study is underway to add a degree in engineering. ' V 2,5 ' - lf Recently the faculty voted to expand the Office Admin- ..--- 5 istration program to a three-track secretarial major includ- ing Professional Secretary, Legal Secretary, and Medical Secretary. We have always stressed job-oriented programs. Our leading departments as to size are Religion fpastors, evangelists, missionaries, christian education, etc.,J Business Administration and Teacher Education. All of these are areas training for a vocation in life. Next fall we are planning a career building to house career programs. Plans are to add other sophisticated career programs. An article in U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT, Uanuary 16, 1978j says, Although college remains a FINANCIALLY REWARD- ING INVESTMENT, the fringe benefits of higher education-better jobs, happier homes, and generally fuller lives-are even more signifi- cant. Howard R. Bowen, economist, after an intensive study, concludes: The total monetary and non-monetary return from higher educa- tion in all its aspects exceed the cost by several times. I agree with these statements, but the bottom line regarding how college pays off is the spiritual benefits at Mid-America Nazarene College. We promise students more personalized attention. We are more creative and inovative than most schools. We care and the future is bright. MANC is for the student. R. Curtis Smith 82
