IGOR, THE friendly iguana, rests with Ray Pawley, MSU herpetology major, after his unescorted tour of East Lansing. . H- AS A PRELUDE to Explorer and Vanguard, Sputnik dominated the October news and turned the eyes of MSU students skyward. If the story of a school year be- gins with the universityis spirit and breadth and unfolds through its major activities, it is surely punctuated by the many small but distinctive events that occur out of the main stream. Igor Roams Summer Campus An exclamation point in this yearis story began with an East Lansing housewifeis scream and was climaxed by the capture of one of the most elusive fugitives ever to confound the local gendarmerie. While apple enthusiasts the campus over fed coins into the new apple vending machine sponsored by the Horticulture department, the fortu- nate students participating in Dr. E. H. Lucas, uapple-a-day health ex- periment found themselves featured in Life magazine. But for all our on-campus cab- bages and kingsf' few can hope to attain the even now legendary stature of the old Coral Gables, lost in the great Ere of the summer of ,57. THIS YEAR for the first time, students of radio and TV wrote and produced sever- al full length dramatic television plays. WITH EXPANDED seating for fall crowds, Macklin Field became Spartan Stadium.
