E , sv 'sf '. :af-+0 9 ' 1 wi .5 ' ' VIOININC IN thi- MSU Growth, a ucw steam power ut rises on South Cfaunpus. Right and below-THE NENV Education and Art buildings speed to 1959 completion. If the students fortunate, or unfortunate enough to own automobiles felt prone to rebellion, their dissatisfaction was soon lost in the far happier response over the opening of the new Student Services building. Between fall and winter terms, a mass migra- tion of students started from crowded offices in the Union to this new center of student activity. Within a few short weeks, groups ranging from the State News to the Student Traffic Appeal Court had shifted operations completely. Even the married student, an individual gen- erally concerned with the more universal activities of home and family, found direct benefit from the universityis program of growth. By fall term, over 500 new brick Spartan Village units were completed, with 800 still under construction. This was steady progress toward the goal of 2,500 by 1959. Meanwhile, the largest unorganized group on campus, the sidewalk superintendents, found full employment despite a recession year for the rest of the nation. Construction began on new buildings ranging from art to education to intramurals.
