Working in this group is the newelyfelected President, David Pence, VicefPresident, James Kinf derdineg and ClerkfTreasurer, James Barlett. Cther members of the Board are Wilbur C. Neff, Ray E. Emby, and Glen C. Brandon. They meet regularly during the year to consider the school conditions and the everfpresent problems with our constantly growing school system. Throughout the year they have been chiefly conf cerned with the crowded condition of our present buildings and the construction of several new build' ings in the area. An addition to the Intermediate Building and one to the Mark Twain Building have already been completed. Two new buildings are now under construction: the Harris V. Bear School, which is located in the southwestern section of the D. Pence, W. Neff, F. Young, R. Emb city, and the Mound School, which is located in the Southeastern section. The Hrst step in reducing the size of the classes was taken in January. The Board hired four new teachers to create new classes in the third, fourth, fifth, and seventh grades. These additional classes were set up in temporary quarters until the ad' ditions were completed. Additional teachers will also be hired this sum' mer to reduce further the class sizes. The goal of the Board of Education is to have all classes at approximately thirty pupils each, Appropriations for expenditures by the Board of Education during the calendar year, 1956, met an allftime high of 5Bl,282,792.5O, which emphasizes the tremendous growth of the Miamisburg City School District. y, I. The play centered around the Carstairs family, Dinah fSue Schroederj, April fDiane Schmidtj, and Archie QEugene Libecapj. They Wanted to help their mother, Mrs. Marian Carstairs fLolly Stockj, to become a famous mystery writer. When their neighbor, Mrs. Sanford, was killed, they decided to get their mothers name in the paper and try to find her a husband. The smart Lieutenant Bill Smith Uack Kinderdinej of the Homicide Bureau made his appearance to solve the crime. Ixlarian wasn't interested in trying to solve the murder, so Dinah and April thought they would have at party for the gang, Joella fDorothy Amslerj, 'xVendy fSue Coblentzl, Betsy fBeverly Black' burnj, Mag fMarjorie Vkfhitmanj, Joe Gerry Me' Guirel, and Pete Gerry Foglej, to delay Lieutenant Smith and O'Hare CMerle Williamsj in solving the murder. XVhen the party was going on, Dinah and April searched the Sanford House while Archie's mob, Slukey QDave Dunkelbergerj and Flashlight fLarry Geislerj, stood guard. While this was hapf pening Frank Riley fMcvrris Cox, was murdered. Everyone suspected Rupert Van Dusen fGary Klinej or Wally Sanford fBurton Lusenhopj. Polly Walker QHarriette Allenj, an actress, also was sus' pected. It was a great surprise to End that Mr. Cherington fGlen Hamiltonj, the husband of their friendly neighbor, Mrs. Cherington QAnn Oylerj. was the murderer. Left: J. McGuire, M. Whit' man, B. The jayvees came back very strongly in the latter part of the year, winning five games in a row against very tough opposition. The Reserves were downed by Kaiser, Fairview, TrotwoodfMadison, Monroe, Fairmont, Troy, Greenville, Franklin, and Fairborn. They did succeed in defeating a tough Xenia and Piqua, Tipp City, Hamilton Fairfield, West Milton, Sidney, and West Carrollton. The little Vikings scored a total of 661 as opposed to 691 for their adversaries. Coach Dulfee is to be complimented for his fine job of coaching and improving the boys. The results of this season undoubtedly assures Viking fans of a tough Viking squad in years to come. M. Williams, J. Hoerner. R. Grimm, L. Myers. M. Ellis, C. Rieder, S. Hirst, E. Kidwell, R. GOLF Coach Taylor Baker looked forward to a marked improvement over last seasons record. Although the team was new and fairly inexperienced, there was a lot of good materialg and they had the determinaf tion and desire to win. Besides their regular matches the Viking golfers competed in Miami Valley League and District Tournaments. lt was a young squad consisting of three sophof mores and three freshmen. The sophomores were John IvIcGohan, Bill Penrod, and Eugene Ginter. The freshmen were Doug Rice, Dan Penwell, and Roger Parramore. John McGohan and Bill Penrod were the only returning lettermen. and enlerlazhment TENNIS The goal of the 1956 Viking netters was to se' cure the Miami Valley League Championship and if possible. cop the District and State Titles. 9 The MVL Tennis title was last won for Miamisf burg in 1943 by Gene Balliett. Two years previously, the Viking's Fred Reichard turned the trick and this year's Vikings set their sights on a repeat perform' ance. Despite its size, Miamisburg has been consistently strong in the net game, and over the years has estab' lished some very fine records. In 1954 the 'Burg started something like a new era when Henry Hank Schneider took over the position of tennis mentor which was previously held by Lester Red Front: Coach H. Schneider. Front Row: R. Anderson, R. Purdy, M. Miller, Hesitand. That year the Vikes posted a very re' spectable record of nine wins and two defeats. In 1955 the Vikings returned Eve lettermen and netted fourteen wins against only three defeats. Two of those setbacks were at the hands of State Champion Springfield and the other loss was to an always' rough Oakwood squad. Miamisburg went undefeated in nine matches in MVL play. Besides this season showing, the Vikings' joe Anderson and Mike Sha' han battled to the semiffinals of the District Tourna- ment before being thwarted by Oakwood's Doug Hinton and Nick Vsfarring. Returning lettermen Dick Anderson, .lim Gas' tineau, and Mike Shahan, under the excellent lead' ership of Coach Hank Schneider, were once again scheduled to meet Springfield, Oakwood, Chaminf ade, and Stivers, along with all of the MVL teams.
