The Nightingale Chorus To NURSES - - Will you ever forget that word, Quiet? Do not sing on duty, do not sing-night nurses sleepingg do not sing-study hourg Sh-h-h - - - In every group there are those who enjoy singing, some with talent and others who just sing for their own pleasure. i In 1928 The Nightingale Chorus, under the direction of Leslie Diehl, was organized. After a lapse of interest for two years in favor of physical education, the chorus was reorganized in 1939, under the baton of Mr. Gustav Herlan, through the efforts of the members of the Class of 1941. In October, 1940, Mrs, Fannie Belle Routsong became the director. Membership in the chorus, which meets every Monday evening, is optional for students. ' The primary purpose of the group, which is made up of thirty-two student nurses, is to provide a means of expression in song for those who find little other opportunity for singing. Q68 To

Recreational and Physical Education - EVERY Thursday evening the sound of laughter and a bouncing ball resounds throughout the gym. A program of recreational and physical education under the direction of Mrs. Mildred Lowes is being enjoyed by the Hrst year students. These activities are optional for second and third year students. During the winter the program consists of folk dancing, volley ball, baseball, kickball, bowling, calis- thenics, games and relays, all of which can be played in the gymnasium. With spring comes new recrea- tional advantages such as hikes, picnics, and all types of outdoor games. From this class has grown the Womenis Athletic Association of The Miami Valley Hospital. This organization will strive to develop a large and well-rounded program of recreational activities for students. A
