30 Secretary of Navy and Protesters Guests at Presidential Review The traditional review of the AFROTC and NROTC units this year was interupted by about 50 demonstrators opposing the distorted priorities ex- emplified by the current mili- tary budget and the continual US. military intervention in the affairs of Southeast Asis. The protesters gathered at the door of Millett Hall and handed out antimilitary !eaflets that dis- dained the sanctioning 0f ROTC by an institution of higher learning and the re- cently proposed record high military budget. The main cause of the pro- test was the presence of Secre- tary 0f the Navy J. William Mid- dendorf. He reported that there has been a growth of Soviet non-nuclear, tactical ca- pabilities, and that whereas the United States has cut, they have accelerated their armed forces. He also said that the Mayaguez rescue operation was a success and that it proved that the navy can complete a mission when called upon.
