“Tftc UKc 7fi ce School presents ”, , . 7 e i omCcC s4Staye. . . written by 1966-1967 MiTra Staff WU ? l olu ie 1 ?cufette Otia Sefotew en.— W 967 2:55 s437C.-3:29 7 9 C. This year the MiTra Staff has tried to present to you a yearbook that is completely different from any you might ever have seen. It is a book that is more than just a record of events. We have put it in the form of a play. The title is a line from Shakespeare- ...the world’s a stage... - the stage being Trace, our own small world. The play has three acts: autumn, winter, and spring in which sports, activities, organi- zations, and so on, are the scenes. Its cast is you, the students. The faculty, administra- tion, school board, cooks, janitors, and office workers represent the play's staff of directors, technicians, and key personnel. The ads section has been transformed into credits, honoring those whom we patronize, those who support us. To achieve a musical atmosphere the headlines have been cleverly disguised as song titles. They may be pop tunes, spirituals, hymns, or famous broadway hits. They may be a song you've heard every day or one you have never heard before. We are always trying to add something new at Trace. This year, we of the MiTra, think we have created something that is unique, new, and fresh and will remain with you throughout your lifetime. Our setting is the school, in- side and out, where we study and take part in extra-curricular activities at least nine months a year. We will remember our school long after we graduate because of the impor- tant role it plays in our education and prepar- ation for life's work. For many years the school will help recall fond memories. We have attempted to show some of the different settings in our school life on these pages. 4 ) 'Ktocv 4 'Place 5 Time is of utmost importance in our daily lives. Seconds really count in basketball games, track meets, and semester exams. Sometimes we speak more in terms of periods, days, weeks, or semesters. All play important parts in the efficient functioning of our school. In a play time is also important. The acts and scenes can represent different days, different years, or different seasons. In this book we are try- ing to present die school year to you as it happens, everything to its own time. The cast is often the most important part of a play. Like- wise, the students are the most important people in a school. The building will change and the teachers will pass on but there will always be students. Because the students are so im- portant, we feature them in this book. 8 PeofUe 10 Athletics comprise the first phase of extra-curricular activities. Many individuals make up the various teams which represent Miami Trace in the different athletic contests throughout the year. Much hard work is spent by players and cheer- leaders preparing for these events. Enthusiasm is high among partici- pants and students whenever it comes to sports of any kind. Support from the fans in each has continued to in- crease with each year of the school's existence. The Athletic department needs to be congratulated for a job well done. II As seen in these pictures fun, hard work, and more fun are involved in the many activities at Miami Trace, such as die band, musical, plays, and glee club. There is always much effort put into each activity but there is also time for goof- ing off after the work is done. 12 13 The organizations and clubs of Miami Trace make up the third part of extra-curricular activities. Many clubs like the Library Club, Art Club, and Industrial Arts Club have their meetings simultaneously with their classes. Others have meetings at activity period and still others have meetings before and after school. These clubs are clas- sified as special interest, service, or vocational. The special interest provides for the development of the students various interests. Service clubs, such as Y-Teens, perform different tasks for the community. Vocational clubs promote the vocational interests of the students. 7 fate ?Ve tyet MARCH 14 15 16 17 OFFICERS Host - Jim Herbert, Hostess - Cheryl Waddell, Pres. - Dave Bihl, V. CATHERINE LYND Faculty Advisor 143 144 145 Mr. Foster can be compared to the director of a play, because his position as principal of the high school requires similar responsibilities. The director of a play is head of the production and must accept criticism as well as praise for the cast. Similarly Mr. Foster is chief supervisor of our school and is held directly responsible for the behavior and repu- tation of the student body. Under his supervision we are prepared to go out into the world--to employment or to further education. MR. GUY M. FOSTER West Virginia Wesleyan College B. A. He assists Mr. Foster whenever his help is needed and takes care of our disciplinary problems. Likewise the assistant director’s main role in a play is assisting the director and keeping order on the stage. MR. RONALD K. THOMPSON Wilmington College B.S. Wittenburg University M.A. BOARD OF EDUCATION - Floyd Hoppes; Marion Waddle, Vice President; Mrs. Fleming, Clerk; Paul Shepard; Foster Kelly; and Glen McCoy, President. The board of education has similar duties to those of ex- ecutive producers in a play. Our board is made up of five elected members who act as a dheck on administrative power and act as a sounding board for complaints. The executive producers in a play advise the director of ideas and courses of action they feel should be followed based on what they believe the public wants. 7 y 'fyocKte Jfte Just as the technical director manages the finances and properties in a play, Mr. Hardin sees to it that our school district is efficiently operated. He is responsible for the teachers of our district, the type of education available to us, and the financial management of our district. Although Mr. Hardin is usually behind the scenes, he is indispensable in making our school system a workable one. MR. JOHN HARDIN County Superintendent The stage manager has an important job, for he must make sure the staging of the play runs properly. He is in charge of the actors, the stage crew, the scenery, and works with the director. These jobs are similar to those of Mr. Boyer, the Executive Head. He is respon- sible for the students, the faculty, and the activities of our school. MR. WALTER BOYER Executive Head MRS. MARGARET S. DOWLER Wilmington College B.S. The English and Language Departments could be compared to the script writers of a play, for language is the basis of communication. Into a script must go imagination, foresight, interest, and plot. This is the challenge of the English and Language Departments, and they have met it well. MRS. SUSANN TERRELL University of the Americas Ohio State University B. S. in Education MRS. Sound o£ Tttuaic A step on the sidewalk, a knock at the door, music full of suspense--all these bring a play to life. Sound effects help put both the actors and the audience in the mood of the play. Our Music Department does this for us at basketball and football games, pep rallies, assemblies, and the musical. Paint The mood of a play is set by the Art Department. If the setting is imaginative and creative, the whole play seems more realistic. Art is important in our school life, too. Mr. Volker and his students have made school a nicer place to study. MR.
