GASS The Science Department of Miami Trace High School touches upon every aspect of our daily life. Science indirectly creates new forces affecting politics, economics, industry, health, and the very nature of our society. It is becoming increasingly evident that people who do not have a background in science w ill be excluded from the intellectual life of the time, and blindly buffeted by the forces that give direction and meaning to modern living. Music Department The goal of the Music Department is very simply stated: to increase the stu- dent’s knowledge of his own culture and the cultures of other people through the organized study and performance of all types of music. Distributive Education MR. GORDON LEMMON Ohio Slate I nivcrsity Bachelor of Science MR. EDWARD VOLKER Ohio Stale University Bachelor of Arts Master of Arts Distributive Education is a vocational program that trains students for careers in retailing, wholesaling, or the service occupations. It is a cooperative program in that students attend regular classes in the morning hours and receive on-the-job training in the afternoon hours. A teacher-coordinator brings the school and business to- gether to provide practical education and is prepared to correlate the work activities of his students with in-school studies. The Miami Trace Art Department hoped to provide the opportunity for the student to acquire some of the communication skills that are inherent in the visual arts. This presupposes an awareness of the limitations and possibilities of the individual development and of the media to be used. The level of creativity achieved is enhanced by this competancy. A review of the student work comparing initial with current efforts indicates that this goal is being accomplished. Physical Education MRS. JANET McCARTY Morehead State College Bachelor of Arts. MR.
