Foreign Language MRS. JANET LOUDNER Degree: Bachelor of Science — Miami University The primary objectives in the study of Latin are to develop the ability to read and understand Latin; to increase knowl- edge of English grammar and vocabulary; to establish a good basis for the study of a modern foreign language; to develop correct habits of reflective thinking; to appreciate the influ- ence of Roman civilization on western civilization. The primary aims of the study of a modern foreign lan- guage is to develop understanding, speaking, reading, and writing skills in this language; to study the culture of another country in order to enrich a pupil’s general knowledge. Many opportunities to be of service to the girls of our school enter into the daily duties of a Dean of Girls. She may help make adjustments in troubled situations; she mav be of assistance in case of illness or injury; she may help establish good relations between pupil and teacher or pupil and pupil. The Dean is also responsi- ble for attaining the best possible rate of school and attendance. In the effort to develop well disciplined and well adjusted girls there is a great challenge to perform the variety of duties of a Dean. MRS. The counselor lends a helping hand to students, through conferences, to aid them in finding a better understanding of themselves in relation to the rapidly developing and changing world. MRS. Each morning I chart all the daily absentees, before beginning other duties of the day, such as caring for all the correspondence for Mr. Foster, sorting the mail, running the duplicating and mimeographing machines, making out and sending all the eligibility lists for all sports activities, and answering the phone and intercom.
