'l 6t e St4tt4Uc4 The building is constructed in the form of a T with a first floor lobby and a second floor lobby separating the three wings. The two-story classroom wing extends to the west. This area is constructed of precast con- crete beams, columns, and floor slabs for both the second floor and the roof. In forming the floor of the sec- ond floor level, the large precast concrete beams are cantilevered out over the precast columns. The canti- lever construction creates a sheltered bus loading dock at ground level. The use of window-wall type con- struction insures ample natural light in the classroom area of both first and second floors. The gymnasium and auditorium wings are constructed of face brick and masonry with precast columns and beams supporting the roof areas. The lobby and administration area, located in the exact center of the T, are also constructed of precast columns, beams and slabs. There are 12 classrooms, an art room, speech room, library, study hall, two general science rooms, a chemistry laboratory, a physics laboratory, two science preparation rooms, two biology laboratories, a four- room commercial suite, a two-room home economics suite, an administrative area, a vocal music room, band room, three vocal or instrumental music practice rooms, two teacher lounges, a mechanical drawing room, wood shop, metal shop, photographic dark room, graphic arts room, foundry, and auto mechanics room, a vocational agriculture area consisting of shop and classrooms, a kitchen, dining room, gymnasium and locker rooms, and an auditorium. The building is amply supplied with office areas for departmental heads, storage and janitorial supply rooms. The building is located on a plot of approximately 27.6 acres which also provides ample area for a foot- ball playing field, football practice field and a baseball diamond. An unusual feature is the football stadium of about 2600 seating capacity, located on the roof of the Vocational-Agricultural-Cafeteria area. The building is completely equipped in all areas with the exception of the graphic arts room. Future plans include equipping this area. The cost per square feet is $13.03 which does not include the equipment which totals $99, 537.19. The total cost which includes the site, building, and equipment, etc., is $1,901,413.56. The first contracts - precast concrete and Mod-U-Wall - were let on February 10, 1961. On April 13, 1961, the general contract, heating and plumbing contract, and the electrical contract were let. All other contracts were let within a short time. Actual construction started after April 13.
