FLORIDA From the days when Technical High School was founded to the present there have been many changes, many advances, and many goals reached. ln l942 Tech moved from the small building that had been her home to the new and modern Lind- sey Hopkins building and became a part of the Lind- sey Hopkins Vocational School. 1943 saw the first Coronation Ball, highlighted by the crowning of the very first Miss Tech High. A Student Council was organized in I946 and in l939 the first annual was published. A student lounge and soda fountain were added to the fifth floor to make Tech one of the most mod- ern and beautiful vocational schools in our country- The finest equipment can be found in any of the 25 shops. ln l954 Tech High saw it's largest Senior Class graduate leaving many honors and awards to the glory of their school. This year, l955, Tech High took part in an evalu- ation program for the purpose of getting accreditation. This perhaps has been the greatest feat that Tech has accomplished thus far in her history. We are sure that this is just the beginning of the glorious future of Technical High School. Since the very beginning of her days the trend of Tech has been steadily upward so this year we have chosen to revolve our book around the theme GOING UP for that is truly the way Tech is going---up! Q fm , s dedication To the uncrowned Queen of our beloved Skyscraper School, Mrs. Tillie Swenson --Mom--- we fondly dedicate this book of precious ' memories. Through her deep understanding and constant friendship Mom has been a true inspiration to all her children at Tech. As a tribute to her untiring work, her never fading smile, and her ever present warmth, we proudly dedicate our l955 Skyscraper. appreciation For the answers to those questions that seemed unanswerable ----- - for the welp and guidance we received when Ne felt we could never get the job done ---- for the comforting words we heard ro boost our spirits when we thought Ne just could not go on ------ and for wis kindness, understanding, knowl- edge, and patience, we, the staff of the l955 Skyscraper wish to express our ieepest and most sincere appreciation and affection to our wonderful sponsor, Mr. Paul Jones. stuclen'c's message To Our Principal: ln past years it has been the custom for the school principal to write a message to his students. This year we, the students, want to reverse this pro- cedure and take this opportunity to express to our principal, Mr. Theodore A, Koschler, our gratitude, appreciation, and sincere admiration for a wonderful school year. We feel the many changes, many improve- ments, ard the tremendous accomplishments of Technical High School are in no small way due to Mr. Koschler. Not only is he a great principal with a policy of for the students, but he is a fine man, one who is respected and admired. 3 Q OWELL B SELBY ant Superintendent zational Education JGENE KITCHING ulum Assistant administration MR, pw, SEAGREN MR. The University of Miami Student Club be- came the enchanted kingdom beneath the sea to portray the theme of Underwater Fantasy for the i954-55 Coronation Ball. Blue and green shadows danced on glittering sea shells, colorful starfish candle holder, and over- sized sea horses. The stage that was to be the cen- ter of attraction for the Coronation ceremony was decorated with two beautiful mermaids, a silver treasure chest which held gifts for Miss and Mr. Tech High, and an anchor from an old abandoned ship. What underwater kingdom would be complete without the fish of the deep? They too were present here taking on new and lovely shapes and colors. Father Neptune looked down upon the entire Ball from his place above the entrance. At the stroke of ten the court of Mr. and Miss Tech High were presented to the crowd. And finally, highlighting the entire affair was the presentation of Enid Polan, Miss Tech High '54-'55 and Don- nell Grice, Mr. Tech High '54-'55. . '5P5ep-y He Q not that nunlfv lnnk The work has been completed and the goal has been reached. You have received your copy of the I955 Skyscraper. You see it now as a book of wonderful memories- memories of your friends, of your school, and of days gone by. But have you stopped to wonder how this book came to be? You might think pictures, layouts, and type are the true ingredients that make up this book but you are wrong. The real ingredients were work, faith, worry, and perserverance. The l955 Annual Staff worked very hard to pro- duce a book that we hope you will enjoy and one that we think you will cherish. But this book could never have been published without the unselfish people who gave their time and energy so willingly. Without the co-operation of the faculty who excus- ed students for those little emergencies , without people like the students of Photo Shop, Commer- cial Art, and Print Shop, and without instructors like Mr. Paul Jones, Mr. Kenneth Bare, and Mr. Charles Karns, this book could never have became a reality. So now it's over and all we can do is to offer thanks to those who have helped and sit back and 1x R mx Q . breath a sigh of relief. The work is over now and we are happy in the knowledge that the work was not wasted as you now have your l955 Skyscraper An- nual. A4-ld 3119 .
