WVe dedicate the Sky- scraper 1954 to the memory of Mr. Sylvanus Landrum George. Instructor in Commercial Art, Commercial Signs and Display, and Advertising Art at Technical High School for eight years, Mr. George was an ardent promoter of the school, whose interest never flagged. Always willing to lend his helping hand when guidance was needed, he gave all of us faith, and hope, and strength to persevere in the face of difficulties. Most of all, he was a true friend, a friend of the kind not easily found in the world of today. More members of your class have received awards indicative of outstanding ability, training, and the application of democratic processes than have those of any class in our school heretofore, and we feel that these distinguished members of your group have been an inspiration to our school. In this fast-moving technological, atomic age, earning a living is vital to seventy-five per cent of all our people. A sound, well- balanced education, including the ability to actively compete in a technical age, becomes indispensable. As you graduates of the class of 1954 go into the community to earn a living, there goes with you the knowledge and skill that will enable you to compete successfully with your fellow workers.
