e ccafcon IT S only flttnng and proper that on he occasuon of the completlon of the lOO room hotel an the Llndsey Hopkms Vocatlonal Educatnon bulldung the Skyscraper yearbook for l95O be deducated to the man whose name has been promlnently ldentlfned wlth thus unique protect from the beglnnlng Mr Joe H Adams Mr Adams manager of the El Comodoro Hotel and formerly presndent of the State Hotel Assoclatuon and the Amencan Hotel Assoclatuon began has afflllatlon wnth the Mlamr Hotel Traunlng program as a member of the local advusory commnt tee for hotel trannung later servlng also as 3 mem vocatuonal program Durung thus perlod of turne he was made chaur man of the educatlonal commlttee of the Amer: can Hotel Assocuatlon and as commlttee chalrman he traveled over a wide area of the country at has own expense to promote trannung for hotel workers among hotel people of the South As nt became lncreasungly apparent that the Muaml Hotel Traunmg program must acquire 1 hotel suntable for an expanded program on a year round basns uf nt were to meet the needs of the Greater Mnaml area Mr Adams took actlve mterest nn fmdung a solutlon to thus very real problem As a result when the Board of Public lnstructnon of Dade County acquured tne Lundsey Hopkms MR JOE bulldung and approved plans for convertlng the thlr teenth fourteenth and flfteenth floors of the build :ng unto a hotel for tralnlng purposes Mr Adams was appolnted to act as representatlve of the Board to handle the matter of equnppung and furmshung the hotel rooms From that tnme untll the day the protect was completed he applsed has consaderable talent to the problem of ralsmg the money needed He was an strumental ln collectmg approxnmately 550 OOO from hotel operators throughout the country for thus purpose and he obtamed from the State Legislature a speclal approprnatlon of S25 O00 from State Hotel furnnshungs for the hotel Further he has through these many years en couraged and cooperated wnth vocational personnel un promotung the sound expansuon of the total pro gram of vocatuonal educatuon as well as contmuvng has support ln theur efforts to tram people who are employed an the lndustry he represents As a token of our apprecnatnon for hrs sub stantnal contnbutlons to the success of the hotel project the furst one of nts kmd ln the Unlted States and for has unvaluable servnces to the fneld of vocatlonal educatuon as a whole we the students faculty and staff of the Lnndsey Hopkms Vocatuonal School affectnonately dedicate the l950 Skyscraper yearbook to our frnend l-l ADAMS I I ber of the general advisory committee for the total Commission funds to assist in obtaining needed - I 1 I - I I Q Q l I I E I . . .
