MARTHA JOANNE BAKER Valedictorian Martha Joanne Baker, first honor student of the class of June 1950, graduates from high school happy in the realization that she has been able to achieve the goals of leadership and service which she set for herself when she entered Tech as a sophomore. ln her junior year, her ambition was to become president of the student council. This ambition she realized, because she early demonstrated her ability as a leader, and she filled the president's office with a dignity and efficiency that have raised the stand- ards of both office and organization. For her senior year, she set as her goal first honors, toward which she began building in the tenth grade. A concientious student and a con- sistent worker, she won through her own efforts the position she deserved, yet she always found time to serve the school, and through service she found success, which is another word for happiness. ASH LING Salutatorian Dorothy Ashling, second honor student, class of June 1950, has served Technical High school throughout her three years of attend- ance in such a way as to make her an invaluable student whose loss will be long felt. Possessed of a genius for detail work, Dorothy has assumed responsibility for various activities requiring attention to detail and in every instance she has discharged her responsibilities well. Both last year's and this year's Skyscraper annuals bear witness to her dependability: her excellent work on the Annual staff in 1949 brought her the position of editor-in-chief in 1950. A Business Training student, Dorothy has worked after school in the administrative offices to acquire experience: but she has not allowed her office work or her duties as editor of the Skyscrapei yearbook to interfere with her studies or her scholastic standing.
