Come and gone . . . If you wanted the facts, all you had to do was stick around in social studies classes. Ho hum. Eleventh grade history and psychology students hearkened to statistics. The fall's prime concentra- tion centered on LSD, marijuana, and liquor. CHic.J Guests from the South Miami Agency on Narcotics shocked the students with yarns of mental retarda- tion and drug convictions. Visions of dancing sugar plums, anyone? Hey, boy, why were you in school? To learn the truth, huh? Courses in U.S. History and Government, Americanism vs. Communism, Sociology, Psychology, and World History attempted to spark the conflagra- tion of knowledge. Just determination to be in the right place. Ho hum. English or biology today? A complicated set up of alternating English-biol- ogy classes enabled students to have class in the auditorium and small classroom. Confusion intensi- fied. For the first time, only phase three and four classes participated in telelessons. Biology phases one, two, and five found themselves in five-day-a- week classes. Life. Death. And on. By a heartbeat, science moved on. Out to help win the race, 11 students concentrated on advanced scientific study. Whether working with a veterinarian at Crandon Park or spending time at the UM computer center, students went scientifically professional for two hours a day. White rabbit? Slimy frog? Sleek cat? Or Reggie, fictional dinosaur cooked up by Department Head Errol Seegers? No time for toying around. Courses crammed with statistics were phased classes in bi- ology ll, chemistry, and physics.
