Mixed Ensemble had the opportunity to sing for civic organizations, such as Rotary and Kiwanis International, as well as performing for various music clubs and church groups. The group sang for the State PTA Convention and partici- pated in the State-Wide Chorus Evalu- ation held in April. . . Cheerleaders Cheer for First Game Selected from over 150 applicants, ten J.V. cheerleaders boosted the spirit of football and basketball junior varsity teams. Judged on personal appearance, smile, pep, and form, sophomore and junior girls tried out during the spring. Due to the early date of the tryouts, the cheerleaders were the first squad ever to cheer at the starting junior varsity football game of the season. Captain Karen Hallstrand and co-captain Marcee Sherrill continued to lead the squad vivaciously throughout the year. Directed by Miss Arlene Schemer, the squad was composed of juniors: Karen Hallstrand, Marcee Sherrill, Kathy Thom- as, Chris Conners, Susie Steinbring, Deb- bie Gibson, Janet Isbell, and Sarah Pletts. The sophomores on the squad were: Bon- nie Dow and Sheila Shank. Kathy Thomas cheers loudly as she urges the Baby Panthers onward as they execute a successful play. Junior Varsity Squad Captain Karen Hallslrand executes the familiar cheerleader split after completing a cheer. Karen was elected captain by the J. V. squad. J.V. squad includes K. Thomas, S. Steinbring, seated, S. Pletts, M. Sherrill, K. Hallstrand, C. Connors, standing, D. Gibson, S. Shank, J. Isbell, and B. Dow. 68
