Chantonettes Originate New Routines Lead by Captain Patti Holladay, 38 chan- tonnettes worked together with the major- ettes and marching band to provide en- tertainment during football season's half- time shows. The girls practiced everyday to develop their precision marching. In addition to skill, membership require- ments for the drill team consisted of a 2.6 average and the responsibility of at- tending all afternoon practices. Chantonette lieutenants, Peggy Crook, Lin O'Connor, Chris Danielson, and Katy Horton worked in conjunction with the captain in originating a different routine for every game. Chantonette Corps, precision drill team, performs hat and cane routine along with the Marching Band during a half-time performance at Central Stadium for the Gables game. Drill members are: Kneeling, L. Bower, K. Timko, P. Iverson, lunging, L. Mitchell, J. Barrett, P. Donalson, Standing, D. Holt, C. Schaefer, P. Eaton, T. Cagle, and B. Davis. 64

Varsity cheerleaders Kauffmann, Barbara .V 1al2T'1a'a - it Cheerleaders Instruct at Clinic in May Spearheaded by captain Ginny Smith, ten cheerleaders worked to promote spirit and sportsmanship in every phase of school life. The squad attended frequent after school practice sessions and strived for perfection. They led the entire student body in cheers at both football and bas- ketball athletic functions. Assisted by Miss Arlene Schemer, the girls sponsored a two week clinic in May. The purpose of instructing those students who hoped to make either the varsity or the junior varsity squads in the future. Marti Carmichael puts pep into her cheers as she leads in urging the team to quick victory. 66 I appearing are: Marti Carmichael, Linda Wills, Candy Walters, Barbara Sorrells, Betsy Hann, Ginny Smith, Kr Murphy, Nancy Peckham, and Karen Bosco, They lead Panther spirit to climax by promoting it at school and game: While walking past Barbara Sorrells, sponsor Arlene Schemer her to get the crowd's active support for team by cheering
