cience Introduces Chemistry 2 Members of the Science Department focused their attention on forming courses of penetrating study at all levels. Striving to give students with a special aptitude in science the opportunity to explore barriers between man and his universe, the department began advanced courses in Biology 2 and Chemistry 2. Follow-up tests enabled the participating pupils to earn college credit. Lab Research, connected with the Uni- versity of Miami, afforded the top IW of senior science students with B aver- ages the chance to perform experimental studies with the doctors and professors. Given the opportunity to excel in data processing at the University and Dade Junior College were five students. B.S.C.S. Biology, Chem Study, and P.S.S.C. Physics encouraged additional student growth. Students of limited ability in the science area were introduced to basic scientific concepts in classes emphasizing discovery and imagination. Mathematics Phases Geometry Classes For the first time, the Math Department featured Calculus 12 for eligible students in advanced placement programs. To sup- plement the course, several of the class members took Theory at the University of Miami campus. Following the precedent set last year in General Math 2, Geometry classes showed liexibility by phasing classes to help students succeed in mathematics. Further challenging pupils to pursue a deeper examination of mathematical con- cepts were courses in General Math, Al- gebra I and II, Algebra-Trigonometry, and Math Analysis. Overhead projectors, acetates, and overlays were used at all math levels to meet the needs of modern day students. M. Allen J. Bivens J . Canida S.
