Scoring winning points for the bowling team are: First Row, Mike Popp, Henry Manheimer, Jack McAffeeg Second Row, Coach Winston Clark, Carl Dorman, Liiiigiiig low, seiiiai David Siiichiei Semis his high David Slachter, Richard Plack, Pleas Bethea, Bruce Weinstein. They practice Cu,-ve bali Spiiiiiiiig iowa,-ds me remaining Seven weekly. Bowling Teams Win Southern Division Sparked by the spirited bowling of Mike Popp, Pleas Bethea, Dave Slachter, and Jack McAfee, the Palmetto boys' bowling team finished this season with a credible record, the boys led the Southern Divi- sion for the third straigh tyear. These Pal- metto athletes attained perfection only because of perseverance and the grueling hours of practice daily at Bowl-O-Mat. Throughout the season, the watchful eyes of Coach Winston Clark helped re- build the girls, team of juniors. Facing strong competition, the Panther team showed outstanding ability as they stood up against rugged opponents from South- west, South Dade, and Coral Gables. Attempting to complete his second strike, sophomore Pleas Bethea fires away to the winning points for the team's third victory. The boys lead the Southern 164

E, , t. - 5.4.-5: Q A K lasting out of a sand trap, Senior John Stack uses one of his specialties, wedge shot, for a qualifying round at the Palmetto Country Club Course. 163 Golf Team Maintains Championship Teeing off to another successful season, the Panthers Golf Team scored decisive victories over such formidable opponents as South Dade, Southwest, Curly, Miami High and Miami Springs. Returning let- termen, John Hoehl, Don Dickey, Rick McMahon and John Stack, sparked the season with their fine shooting. Sopho- mores Walter Menzel, Steve Mullens, and Scott Stewart showed great promise. Coach Sam Scheltzer's daily practices at the Palmetto Country Club sharpened the team's skill. Anchored by captain John Hoehl's steady shooting, the team made good showings against rugged competition in the defense of its State Title for the 1968 season.
