What We Are To Be We Are ow Becoming I Fon Tm: lVlosT l'.-xkT. war had ended. Some- how it seemed strange-lheing without war. that is. After all. the only thing we had known for a whole lifetimeiall six years of it--was war. And then there was that great man in Washington who had just died. a tired man who had led a tired nation. Mr. Roosevelt was President years hefore we were even horn. liut he was gone too. Life was-ff and still is-too hig for us to stand still. There were too many opportunities and too much happiness ahead for us to halk. For many of us it was the beginning of a real family life. what with daddy's coming home from war and mama's stopping work in the defense plant. But for others. daddy never did come home. and mama went on working somewhere else. The fall of l9f15 came. OH we went to school. fearing the uncertainty of it at first. hut finally accepting reluctantly the unparalleled bliss that followed for six years. Yet the time came for us to surrender our paste hottles. hlunt-nose scissors. and fingerpaints. lfntering junior high was a real challenge. Most of us had dilliculty making the transition. It was amazing how much they expected of usl Who ever heard of memorizing a passage from Srzozvhounrf? And six rlifferenr teachers for one school day! Somehow we survived the three years in junior high. so with voices deeper. faces fuzzier. and antics sillier for some. and hair styles fancier. smiles sexier and telephone calls longer for others. we all entered high school, lt's three years later today. and three more years of physical. mental. and moral growth have passed. Today we stand together: tomorrow we must part. Some to college. some to work. some to marriage zrlmf uv' are Io be mf are nou' be- coming. Y V .
