L Above us lies a great distance of unexplored space, below us lies undefined fathoms of unprobed masses, around us there lives an ebbing, flowing tide of life filled with the mysteries of the unknown. Shifting and changing, this world of today is not what it was yesterday nor yet what it will be tomorrow. Still there are these constnts, the love in oyr home, the beliefs to which we hold, the kinships which knit us into one people. These form our taproots which anchor us to the land in which we live. Without these roots we would be tossed to and fro much in the same way ' as those Oklahoma tumble weeds which ceaselessly and erratically are blown about by the capricious winds. We know and love the roots that anchor us to Miami, so we carefully searched for a title for this 1960 book which would convey a little of our pride. We wanted a name to symbolize our pride in our homes, our town and our state.
