They proved invaluable at keeping team unity and spirit when failure seemed inevitible. Miami's head coach Mr. Richard junior, and assistant coach Steve Dennis are two people who put forth indispensible effort toward coaching our varsity football team for their first year in varsity football. Neil Mc- Donald C645 was another senior who filled his position well as a punter, averaging 42. 3 yards. With this yardage, Neil was named All-Conference Punter. Monte Hutchison C445 feeling froggy during Rich Team receiving Consolation trophy at Hill game. Metz tournament. This year the boys brought home the Conference Sportsmanship Award from the Conference Tournament. This could not have been done without the support of the parents and pep club. In the Metz Tournament we earned the Consolation trophy. After a long lay off we had to tangle with a big, fast Walker team. The next two games we won with good shooting and few mistakes. We have played teams who have tried to humiliate us and beat us to death physical- ly. We have played games that we were out of before it ever started, but living up to the name of the Eagle they never gave up. They fought right down to the final buzzer. The 1973-74 Eagles were a young team with very little experience. Next year the Eagles will be a little more experienced and a little wiser. So WEMO teams BEWA RE!!! Ginger Hockett putting in 2 for Miami during Adrian game. fOL1I'I1aII19!'1t. Donna Black getting the tip off in the Miami-Adrian game. Our record this year is 6 wins and 10 losses. I feel this is a pretty good record consid ering we played the top 3 teams in the conference each twice. Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines team work as follows: work done by a num- ber of associates each doing a part but all subordinating personal prominence to the efficiency of the whole. Looking at the other teams in the conference one will think of Marsh, Howard, Crook, or Hanson. But when you think of the Miami team you think of 5 or 10 players who worked together to win. They gave up personal glory and worked together. Each girl helped and did her share whether in practice or in a game, each did her part in her own way. The highlight of the season was a trophy from the Metz Tournament. After losing a tough game to Walker, we came back to defeat Hume and Schell City. Throughout the tournament the girls displayed excellent sportsmanship and team Work. We will lose some key players through graduation but don't count the Eagles out. We'll be back next year with the drive and determination and revenge in our eyes. 1973-19 4 Girls Basketball Season Girls taking Consolation trophy in Metz 1974 Courtwarming Court Annette Duckworth and Dean Curnutte John Stanfill and Robin Gutshall Monte Hutchinson and Janet Dyer Miami Varsity Basketball LEFT TO RIGHT: David Wright, Coachg Curt Inlow, Dale Gillis, Virgil Bowers, Dan Duckworth Eynn Morgan, Angie Julien, john Stanfill, Monte Hutchison, Jim Platt, Dean Curnutte, Scott itner.
