The Living Edison From the roll of the drum and sound of the bugle to the click of the final minute before the 3:00 bell and even into the night Edison is liv- ing. Edison runs to class , . . studies in the quiet library . . .waits in the cafeteria line . . .cheers at pep assemblies . . . puzzles over test ques- tions . . . hopes and dreams and cries and smiles for all its worth. ' Those who think Edison is dead have never 5 felt the anticipation of the big game of the year 4 . , seen the proud smiles and tear stained faces of newly tapped students A . . stood for the Alma Mater and thrilled right to the toes . . . or, with bowed head listened to the echo of l,OOO voices saying in unison, Our Father . . . Our school isn't just a location, a building, a state of existence, it lives and breathes in the individual minds and lives of its students and alumni. Edison is enthusiasm , . . activity . . . tradition . . . success. Thanks, Mr. Shumard ln i943 a student graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School. Six years later he returned to his Alma Mater as a social studies teacher. Since then he has proven himself not only outstanding in classroom instruction but also an able leader and a ready and willing supporter of various school activities. In the classroom he combines his teaching skill and sense of humor, making students want to put forth their best efforts. ln addition to his classroom duties he has served as cirriculum assistant, acting Dean of Boys, Director of Student Activities, and Senior Class Sponsor. He has unselfishly given of his time to Edison's varied activities. He has sponsored the l.D. Committee, Wheel Club, Key Club, and National Honor Society. At present he is Head of the Social Studies Department and Head of Machine Records Work and Administration. We are grateful for his competent handling of the Eval- uation this year. Because we appreciate one who has so faithfully and unselfishly served Miami Edison Senior High, we proud- ly dedicate the i958 Beacon to Mr. Edward F, Shumard. K UL Mr. Shumard is a gifted scholar and dedicated teacher and administrator. His willing- ness to serve our students and teachers in many positions of service and leadership has only been exceeded by his love for Miami Edison, his Alma Mater.
